One of a kind Busse!!!

I was at the Fishing and Hunting Show, at the Rosemont Expo. Center here in Illinois, when I noticed a big, yellow Busse Combat Knife sign. The knife that caught my eye was what looked like a slimmed down version of the Battle Mistress. The differences are that it's blade is 1 1/2 iinches wide, but still 1/4 thick. The blade is bead-blasted INFI. The handle is a very grippy textured micarta with brass rivets. There is a thong hole on the ricasso, but not at the butt. The salesman told me that it was designed for Ron Hood and that it was the only one in existence. I ended up buying the knife which came with a kydex sheath.
Mr. Jerry Busse,
If you can give me any additional information on this knife, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank You.

UNFAIR!!!!!!!

I had many inquiries at Ron Hood about this knife and was always told I have to be patient but I'm on the list for delivery. Than the word was that production lacked and it was not sure if ever... blah, blah, blah.

How many exactly were made I not know. It seems nobody tells me anything! Anyway, I'm pi$$ed!

Here a picture: http://www.survival.com/hood.htm

The blade will have an inscription on the top of the tang. If you will post that I can confirm. Also there should be a very small number on the blade at the end of the inscription. That is the blade number. If you give me that number I can tell you about the blade. All of the blades we sold were black ceramic coated except the prototype.

Only a few (less than 10) were ever made. I have the prototype and I managed to buy back one of the others.

Please don't be pissed. We are the ones who should be pissed.

Ron

Hi Ron!

I'm not p... about you or Busse. It's just frustrating to read that someone walks to a show and can get a unique knife by chance which several regular customers tried to purchase in vain. Interesting fact is that it doesn’t have a thong hole at the butt. The knife in the picture has one.

BTW what IS the status on taking up production on these? Maybe Jerry can give us some infos.

Enjoy the knife, Tatsu!

Tatsu...

The knife you bought in Chicago is NOT a Hood knife. While it may be similar in size and have similar features, it is not the Hood designed piece.

Jerry designed a handful of knives as alternative configurations for Doc Ron, before he had ever received the good Doc's final design.

Doc Ron's version was so strong for the applications intended, that Jerry put the knife which you now own, on the shelf. It never went to production...this is not to say your knife is not a GREAT knife and worthy of the toughest conditions...it's just not the one which Doc Ron spec'd for Busse Combat.

Enjoy your custom piece. It will serve you well.

Thank you for your information Andy Prisco. Doc Ron, the blade is sterile, I could not locate any inscriptions or numbers on the tang. I beleive that it is one of the alternative configurations that Andy Prisco had mentioned. When the salesman told me that this INFI Busse was designed for Ron Hood, I figured how could I go wrong. Any way I look at it, I have a knife that will serve me well.
Thank You for your help guys.

I saw this knife at the Indy 1500 gun show a couple of months ago. That's when I bought my basic5! It was advertised to be designed by Doc but, it looked nothing like the HOOD knife and was a bit gimmicky for my tastes. Congrats on the purchase. Was tempted myself.
