"One of a Kind" whooo boy!

LMAO, saw that one too. Was real tempted to hit the "ask the seller a question" button and offer him a real good deal on mine.:D

Did you see the CF Civilian listed as an SS Police?

Seems to me we made more than one Merlin with a plain edge.

Come to think of it, I remember making one for someone before we did the run, but I'd be hard pressed to identify it from the run.

Hey, I think before you grab your check book or credit card you need to look at the guy's rep on Ebay. I don't bid on any auction that a seller has either under 100 completed transactions or a rep below 98%. Just a good rule of thumb if your ebayin' for knives or anything else for that matter. I've used ebay for quite a while now and have acquire most of my spydies through transactions done there, however, I am very careful who the seller is and so forth. I've come away with some pretty good deals. And knives I'm looking for come up fairly often even the rare breed too...so don't jump the gun on one if you don't feel comfortable with the seller. I'm sure you will be able to find a knife your seeking easily somewhere. I've managed to find quite a few hard to find spydercos and at very good deals.

I know it's childish but the 13 yr old kid hiding in my 46 yr old body had to mail the guy and bust his bubble  :D Ron

Okay now, if this fella was selling a Merlin with integral FRN clip and a PE, he would have gotten my attention (in a more positive manner)...

Poor guy really thinks he's got a rare one, huh?

Yes, that's a good one... :D

But actually some of these sellers are just misguided or confused by their friends who insist they know that the knife is rare and one of a kind. I did my share of putting some sense into several of my acquaintances that attempted to put a rusted junky $10 tourist kukri on sale as an antique, asking $200 for it... :)

But yeah, letting the seller know the error of his ways, expecially in something like this, is something that needs doing... :)

:footinmou GULP! I may have to eat my own words on this 1 but I just recieved a reply that this is the very knife Sal made special for a friend.

I appreciate your input, but this is a one of a kind
knife. I got the information directly from Sal at
Spyderco. He special made this knife for someone and
I bought it from them. If Spyderco has since made a
plain edge Merlin a production knife I do not know,
but my is still a one of a kind.

So the question now becomes, does he have any paperwork that would accompany the knife to give credence to that claim, or is there some discernible difference from a regular production Merlin that would insure its continued value. If so, he should really mention them in his listing, if not, then is it realistically worth any more than a regular Merlin.

I have a Kydex holster that was made FOR ME by Tim Wegner HIMSELF (the guy who owns "Blade-Tech"), while I was there watching him make it...I wonder if I could sell IT at eBay for $150???.:D.

Still, it's just a PE Merlin whether it be made by Sal before the run or not. I don't understand how the seller can expect 150 dollars...but then...where's Heidi when you need her ;)

This seller may indeed have THE special Merlin, but to quote Sal "Come to think of it, I remember making one for someone before we did the run, but I'd be hard pressed to identify it from the run".

If HE can't tell the difference, nobody can...

It would hae to have been a SE that was reground. Probaly easy to tell when along side a new one.

As I remember, it was made for MDP a number of years ago. It's hard to remember every special knife made.

Hope that helps.

I thank everyone for their help and responses. Sorry this has caused such a big stink. I no longer follow the knife industry and wasn't aware they had made production models of my knife. It is indeed the one Sal was referring to. As for the outrageous price, well if someone is willing to pay it, I'm willing to take it. ;)

I would, however, appreciate it if you could stop the death threats and halt all pending lawsuits. Obviously if I'm trying to sell stuff I own I have nothing for you to get. :)

Sincerly,
daggers_dragons@yahoo.com

edit I have revised the auction to make it more acurate.
