I finally got home from from work tonight from a long day at work and HORRIBLE traffic. I drive a lot in LA and mostly our traffic issues are generally blown out of porportion, but when it gets bad, sometimes it's really, really bad. Tonight was almost legendary bad.

When I finally got home tonight there was a small plain brown box on my desk with a FedEx sticker on it. I immediately grabbed my brand new Microtech Amphibian that came yesterday in a box that was remarkable similar, but had a UPS label on it. I took my awesome new knife and opened this little box. Inside was my new Al Mar Shrike! Not only did I get to use my new knife for the second time, but I got to use it to open a box and get another really cool knife! Both had come from other bladeforums members(both rycer and MOJO rock and so do these knives).

It's unfortunate that I won't be able to repeat this experience in the near future, but it was fun.

I love this place.

Here's a pick of the new additions.

Congrats!! Both are great knives. That Amphib is a nice shade of green, Bolder than both Amphib autos I own. The Shrike is an awesome knife and the Shrike passaround opened me up to the Al Mar brand as I was very impressed. I own a Osprey and the Sere 2000, but still need to pick up the one that started it all :D

Gotta love mulitple knife days, they are hard to beat

I have to really learn how to run a digicam as I just started my own website and my pics all look like crap. The photo is overexposed, teh green is not that bright in real life and the Shrike is much more black.

You're right, they're both great knives. If the Amphibian had the thumb studs and clip from a Socom Elite, but was still tip up, I think it might almost be my perfect EDC. The Shrike seems to have the same kind of overall rugged construction of the SERE 2000, but in a much sleeker package. What an awesome linerlock!

That's real cool. Been awhile since I have seen any new knives come in boxes:(
The knives look great. How does that Amphibian handle?

The Amphib is in the running for my favorite folder ever. If it only had the thumb studs off the Socom Elite, It would be just about perfect. I love the recurve blade. It really cuts. I can see the Socom E being a better piercing knife, but most of the time I'm slicing and the Amphibian seems better suited for that. It's also got a stronger point than the Socom E. The curved handle combined with the big belly recurve blade make for a great pull cut/slice combination.

This knife is awesome.

congratuations on the new knives! I have the exact same model amphibian and I have to say that is my favorite non auto MT design, I don't care much for how the other manuals look... The amphibian is a really nice knife, the handle is comfortable and the thing grind coupled with a thick spine makes one good cutter.

Nice additions. The look of the Amphibian is growing on me, and I'm sure if I held one that I would really like it. Everytime I hear about an Amphibian I think about the hot girl that worked at Lowe's that had one clipped in her pocket. If I wasn't married I would have clubbed her and took her home with me.

Very nice!

 knives jmx! Getting new blades in the mail is what I look forward to most anymore. The rush from deciding to buy a knife then checking to see if it's arrived every day when you get home. That moment of opening the box to hold the knife you've been thinking about for the past week or so.... it's just the best feeling! Sometimes I'll delay in opening the box just to add to the excitement. Kind of like holding off an orgasm until you just can't stand it anymore :D I know I'm a sick man but it makes me feel better to know that you other knuts are just as sick as I am :)

I know what you mean about holding off opening the box. I force myself to let it sit on my desk until I've done all my chores (send mortgage check, balance checkbook, do emails, etc). Only then do I allow myself to open the new toy. This is mostly done out of practicality because if I start in on the new toys, the chores don't get done.
