The US military camp knife is one of my all time favorite CAMILLUS pocketknives, and also one of the most overlooked. I thought you guys might enjoy a good pic of the US military classic. Its still a issue item, and still serving this country around the world.....

The model number is #1760, and it can usually be found on the net for under $20. Alot of function for a few $$$$.....

Nice pic. Are you taking requests? How about a pic of a CQB1 with some Sure Fires and firearms? You know, a tactical theme? :)

I carried a "Demo" knife in the US Army. They were called this because they were issue items in the demolitions box.
Anyway on a night jump I became entangled with another jumper.
My demo knife was in a open top nylon pouch with a lanyard. I got it out and cut a number of shroud lines to free us.
The only time a knife has saved my life literally.

Yep, My demo knife was carried from 1965 to 1990 when it finally
wore out. Replace it with a Camillus made stockman, but that demo
knife is still kept for the memories.

You're right, it is a shame more fella's don't carry one much anymore
as it really is a great do it all pocket knife.

Doctom,
Great story! Its not always a massive combat fixed blade that saves the day. I talk to a Viet Nam vet last year that got himself out of a very dicey situation in 'Nam with our TL-29 Electrican's Knife[!], acutally using it as a weapon, because that is all he had at the time!

Sgt. Strawberry,
Oh yes, we sell the #1760 to the public! It has been availible trogh dealers for as long as I can remember.....as far as I know, as long as we have made it. It can be found on most all of the websites listed on our "Links" page of....

Thanks for the interest guys!

Great functional knife. My first Camillus purchase.

I've had one in my tackle box for a number of years.

My blade is stamped -

Camillus
1983

Will, is Camillus the only company that makes or has made that knife? I bought my son one way back in the late 1970s as his first knife, but it was so stiff to open that he kept breaking his finger nails trying. I have no idea what happened to it, but he persuaded my parents to buy him a SwissChamp, or something very like that, which is totally out of that same league.

BTW, I bought a couple of Barlow knives a while back and they have the same problem. Does anyone have any idea how to remedy this?

Yup, got one of those (circa 1970's). Never used or maintenanced but rust free to date. I also have had fingernails broken off trying to open the blades (probably due to the strong springs and the lack of use). My blade of choice during military service was the TL-29 (seems like it was "the" multi-tool of choice during those years).

Still have mine that I carried every day while serving "in country" when I was in the Marine Corps. I have lots of custom knives but this would the last one I would ever let go!

My teenage son keeps getting knifes for presents (birthday, Christmas, etc.) as well as hand-me-downs. He has a good deal more bladeware that I ever dreamed of at his age.

Bottom line, his military camp knife, as shown above, is the one he likes to take on Boy Scout outings and the one he will hike Philmont with in June. They do not permit fixed blades there. :(

His "e.d.c." (even thoug he can't e.d.c. it) is also a Camillus - a Sierra. But he really likes the military camp knife the most and uses the daylights out of it.
