There are a number of fine folders on the market but
when I got my first Microtech Mini SOCOM Frame Lock I
was hooked. They're not too small, not too big, look great,
use a frame lock, and they are really well made.

I liked the first one so much I searched for another. They
weren't so easy to find and I wasn't sure if Microtech would
keep making them, so I bought a few more. :)

The blade is about 3 3/8 inches from the tip to the most forward part of the frame.

The one with no pocket clip I carry in a Chris Reeve nylon belt pouch in the horizontal mode.
I took off the clip to make it easier to slid the knife out of the pouch. You can't change the
position of the clip. All but one are designed for tip up carry. It was made in 01/2004 and
the cutouts for the grippy "sandpaper" stuff are more shallow.

I didn't even realize Microtech made those with a framelock. I've always loved the design and the incredible production values of those knives, but couldn't get past their locks. With a framelock, that's a killer package!

Yep. I hope MT will make another run of them. Apparently they made a few in Ti.

The lock is interesting. They use a steel piece on the end of the lock bar that perfroms two jobs. Part of it rubs sgainst the back of the blade to lock the blade open. Another part extends past the lock bar and will hit the inside of the frame if someone pushes to hard when opening the lock. It's a really neat design.

MT has a larger version of this knife but it has a different lock and I'm not so sure I would be as comfortable with the new lock.

I am a knife-slut. I am as fickle as the weather. I have a little of everything - a Spydie Native, BM Gryp, Kershaw Blurs, Scallions, Leeks - even a Damascus Leek. Who could forget Puma and Bear, the latter made here in Alabama - but nothing from the PRC. The only folder I traditionally come back to is a basic Buck 110 - even if one doesn't go with me these days as often as they once did. Hellbent on changing that, I bought a sale-priced regular 110 - with the usual 420HC and a leather case - for $21.99 at a local sports chain last September. It was joined quickly by the lower two custom 110s from Buck (BG-42 & tear-drop Damascus) - and my previous favorite - the Alaskan Guide S30V 110 made for Cabela's. Still, there is something about the basic 110 - a true bargain for $25-$30 at Wally World. Still 'Made in the USA' - a classic. Okay, a big classic (Like me...)!
