Those look great! Is it just my imagination, or is there somewhat of a forward cant to the first blade? Great looking knives and sheaths...I may have to buy one off of you before you get any better and go out of my price range! :D

Thanks you are very kind.

:thumbup:Those look great!I'd a never guessed they were "first tries".

Well in fairness my day job is making knives and cutting tools for the butchery trade but they are very basic, made to do the job. These are the first I've made for hunting, camping bushcraft. I hope to try my hand at some other styles. Perhaps some fancy cleavers and machetes. My knives seem pretty basic to me compared to the great makers here. They are good, honest knives though that are sharp and strong. They will make good users. Thanks for your comments. I still have plenty to learn and this looks like the place to learn it. Amazing forum.

Hey , nice job ! Those are some handsome knives , nicer than any of my attempts thus far , I wouldnt be ashamed to own one.

What wood did you use on the last knife ?

Tostig

Those look pretty dang good to me. How did you do the heat treating? How did you finish that walnut? Finishing the wood is one of my biggest hangups for my own handles.

Heat in forge until cherry red/non magnetic, then oil quench to harden. Triple tempered. I aim for 57-59RC. For the wood I use a mixture of linseed oil and beeswax, then hand buff. First with cloth then with a leather strop, then with a very soft cloth. The oil gets right into the wood and seals it deep into the wood. Danish oil can achieve a similar effect but I make my own.
