A little over a week ago, Joanne and I took the ferry to bring our Granddaughter back to the University of Victoria for the fall semester. It is a great ferry ride, weaving through the Gulf Islands, and takes a little under two hours.
Since we were going over, we decided we'd stay for a week, and tour the southern end of the Island. There are spectacular forests, and lots of woodland and Coastal Pacific wildlife to see.
Hawks, Eagles and Vultures, Herons and Ravens and shorebirds,
Blacktail deer, Elk, Grizzly and Black Bears, and Sea Lions, Seals, Otters - it is endless!! The only ones we didn't see were the Bears - maybe just as well!
We spent some time in Yurts, tasted real English style Ciders, and some local wines, and also spent a couple nights in a Seaside Hotel that served gourmet meals of 100% local Bounty!!

But, on to the Booty!! I managed to find a few pieces worth taking home, and at off-season prices!!

Above is a Johnson Western Works, "Lamb Foot Knife". It has all-steel construction, a great flush square joint, and is beautifully pocket worn and snappy!

Then a Tyzack Glazing tool with the famous Triskellion stamping!

A well-worn Enos Furness Barlow is next; I can't resist these old things!

Then an exquisitely forged Corkscrew, buttressed by a Brass circle. If you know how these are made (usually an integral shouldered shaft, through a washer and peened) you cannot see how it is assembled, until you find the shaft hidden in the end grain!!

But the find of the trip, and incredibly inexpensive, was this W. Saynor sportsman's knife. Poorly sharpened, but nearly unused, it has great Stag handles, and everything works like new!

Thanks for looking!!

All great finds Charlie but my oh my, that Saynor! Don't know if I've ever seen one with that much blade left to it.

Sportsman is a rich find, really decent stag on that one!

Rich too to be able to see Otters, I've never seen them in the wild but would be overawed to get the chance. They're very secretive in Europe.

Thanks, Will

Charlie - Congratulations on what sounds like a wonderful trip! And all these wonderful souvenirs also. Thank you for sharing!

Just astounding synchronicity with the universe, Charlie!! I have a big smile on my face. Thanks for sharing:D

This is going to be featured in the unintentionally dirty thread titles thread in W&C for sure.

That camp knife is just unbelievable. What a find.

What interesting finds, Charlie. I like them all, but that Saynor is pretty nice!

I've seen that three-legged wheel associated with the Isle of Man, and also on a Greek Syracusan coin.

Thanks for the compliments, John, Will, Ron and Gev!

Hope I didn't insult or scandalize you, Logan!?
:D

Glad you like them, Glenn!!;)

Oh my, not at all Charlie! (I didn't mean to insinuate that at all) This is an awesome thread, I love seeing the old knives you find. That camp knife is an absolute gem!

I scan any antique mall/shop I can for just such handsome old knives! (I'll admit, I have little luck. Though I do have one promising lead!)

It's just that the wolves in W&C spare no one and nothing...

Great find Charlie, Yes the Saynor is the real deal and in great condition, but for my odd taste the lamb foot is the true gem, I'd drop it in my pocket with no time :D.

Mike

Sounds like a great trip Charlie, and what wonderful finds, fantastic  Thanks for sharing them with us :) Superb Saynor

Wonderful trip by the sounds Charlie, I LOVE that corkscrew, that is indeed a beautiful piece, but my friend, words escape me when trying to describe the feeling I would have had coming across that Saynor, NEVER have I seen a Saynor in that configuration - just simply a stunning piece, and again I am left wondering just how you come across these pieces because they usually are not just a knife- but an outstanding one, maybe the next TC should take after the older Solingen stamping of MAGNETO?
By the way, isnt it ironic that you find that Tyzack & Son tool with the three legged symbol is just great - and I can just see Joanne raising her eyebrows and walking away leaving you too your knives :-)

Thanks Mike, Jack and Duncan!

Duncan, Joanne is an artist and loves symbolism. The Triskelion reminds us both of the Sicilian Trinacria, and of the wonderful time we spent in Sicily!!
She does shake her head sometimes when she sees me gazing fondly - perhaps over-long:rolleyes:, at some knife!!

HEY cmon now. What sort of men are we? ...that look!
THAT LOOK is the look WE give THEM at the sewing/parchworking shop....right.
Great booty Charlie.
