A little over a week ago, Joanne and I took the ferry to bring our Granddaughter back to the University of Victoria for the fall semester. It is a great ferry ride, weaving through the Gulf Islands, and takes a little under two hours.
Since we were going over, we decided we'd stay for a week, and tour the southern end of the Island. There are spectacular forests, and lots of woodland and Coastal Pacific wildlife to see.
Hawks, Eagles and Vultures, Herons and Ravens and shorebirds,
Blacktail deer, Elk, Grizzly and Black Bears, and Sea Lions, Seals, Otters - it is endless!! The only ones we didn't see were the Bears - maybe just as well!
We spent some time in Yurts, tasted real English style Ciders, and some local wines, and also spent a couple nights in a Seaside Hotel that served gourmet meals of 100% local Bounty!!
But, on to the Booty!! I managed to find a few pieces worth taking home, and at off-season prices!!
Above is a Johnson Western Works, "Lamb Foot Knife". It has all-steel construction, a great flush square joint, and is beautifully pocket worn and snappy!
Then a Tyzack Glazing tool with the famous Triskellion stamping!
A well-worn Enos Furness Barlow is next; I can't resist these old things!
Then an exquisitely forged Corkscrew, buttressed by a Brass circle. If you know how these are made (usually an integral shouldered shaft, through a washer and peened) you cannot see how it is assembled, until you find the shaft hidden in the end grain!!
But the find of the trip, and incredibly inexpensive, was this W. Saynor sportsman's knife. Poorly sharpened, but nearly unused, it has great Stag handles, and everything works like new!
Thanks for looking!!
