Dude, I like it! Looks like it'll stick pigs just fine. One thing I would change if I made it, would be a guard. Not a traditional style, but one that is just part of the profile on top and bottom, make sense? Maybe I can find a pic of what I mean later, if I don't make sense.

Is knife #2 a clone to this one? 16" is a little big if your huntin javalina! Ferral pigs on the other hand...

Well done

That looks great Ryan. I am torn on a large guard for a hog sticking knife.

People often feel like their hand will slide forward onto the blade during a powerful stabbing thrust. I think if the knife has a good grip and a sharp point there will not be enough resistance to actually cause you any problems. That guard looks like it would be enough to me. I am no hog sticking exper,t so I do not know. Does anyone actually know of someone getting cut this way?

One idea that I have had for some time that I have never seen would be two guards on either side of the scales that fold up and lock into place. When you get close and ready for the sticking, you fold up and lock your guards, when your done you fold them back and they vanish into the handle of the knife. That way the guards is not in your way on your belt or when using the knife for other things.

This will be Feral Pigs (Possible 300+ lbs.) in Texas so I wanted to go big. I wanted to do a bigger guard but hate guards. your guard suggestion makes sense, but I think even if I went bigger if the hand is going to slip up the blade it will anyway.

I have been taking BladeMinister here on BF and he suggested a Paracord D guard similar to what the Busse group seem to like. I may run one from the pommel to the Ricasso that runs over the back of the hand to prevent slippage.

The Second one (There are actually 3 LOL) is not the same, the Blade profile is similar but the handle is different. I will post the initial Draw up Design below.

Hey Grafton,
I was considering putting a 1" threaded post sticking out of the right side of the Ricasso to act as a stop. Your first index finger knuckle would come up against the post, but could be unscrewed when not needed. Hope this makes sense. You should draw something up, I can't imagine how a folding device would work or look.

This will be getting used th 12th - 15th I will report with photos.

I am with you, I do not like the look of a guard either. What I was thinking was like a couple of small unsharpened lock blades with smooth edges that fold out and lock at a 90 degree angle to the blade to form the guard. The pivot point would be where you show the post above. One pivots from the top of the knife handle and one pivots from the bottom of the handle. When they are not in use they fold into the handle like a folding knife. Does that make sense?

Probably too complicated and gimmicky to justify the engineering of it. Just kind of surprised I have never seen any knife with something like that.

Post photos when you get to use that knife! Good luck and be safe.

Ryan, I think once you get that paracord d guard on it, it will be close to perfection. The size is just right for the task it is intended for as well. You always come up with some of the best knife designs, and your grind lines are superb.

That would definitely be cool to see, but way out of my League! :o Sounds like a project for the guys that make the locking folders.

Shawn, "D Para-guard" (That is what I am calling it) will work great I tied one up last night and it works like a charm. and Thanks for the HUGE compliment on the grinds and designs, I am working on it!

Thanks Johnathan, I was actually going to post some photos today. I finished them up (As much as I am going to) today, made some quick sheaths. They are ready to get dirty next week.

Now that I've seen both of them finished, I believe I like that top one the best. I would be proud to own either, but that top one has got my vote.

The rubber handles would keep your hand from sliding too much.Nice work on those stickers,I like them alot!
