Greetings you all

Last month I got an Opinel 6 au carbon from my mom on my birthday.
She knows I like to fool around with them which is about my only hobby.
Now my mom has absolutely nothing with knives and the fact that she went to the hardware store all by herself and picked this one out together with the owner makes this Opi very special.

At first I was planning to keep it stock because I didn't want run the risk to screw it up, but Mom said " That's why I bought it for you "
Soooooo,

I went to work with files and sandpapers and this is how it turned out.
I kept the modifications to a minimum because I wanted the knive to be an Opinel as much as possible.

The day I got it:

How it is at this very moment:

Turned out really nice and the action is between 5 or 6 now.
Has been my EDC for the past couple of days and I don't plan on changing that any soon.

Thanx for reading;)

That's awesome! My parents know I'm a knife nut, but I'll still get clothes or advice for gifts. Sometimes, that's just how it is.

Treat that Opi right and it should last a lifetime.

Do you have to remove the lock ring to conform to the law, or is that a personal choice?

But it does look good!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Personal choice Carl. I just like it this way and I have become to like the friction folder lately ;)
Over here we are still allowed to carry any non automatic folder locking or not as long it doesn't exceed 28 cm total length.

I'm sure you guys know this, but the original Opinel knives didn't lock. The ring lock wasn't used on Opinel knives until 1955, so it's practically a modern fad. ;)
And unbelievably, such an obvious and necessary feature, the ring lock didn't lock the knife closed until 2000!

Timely thread. I'm in the process of modifying my No6 right now. Basically the same as spydutch. Round off the back, drop point the blade, EZ open cut.

how do you go about changing the blade shape to drop point?

And what do you mean when you say EZ open cut? Deepen the indent where you open the knife? THanks!

Having trouble posting using the "reply with quote" feature so in response to unbrokenchain33's questions.......

I clamp the blade in a rubber padded vice and using a metal file, slowly curve down the top of the blade from the nail nick forward.
I use a dremel round sand paper drum attachment to cut a notch for the EZ open. I'll post a pick once the polyurethane dries.

what/where is the notch, and how does it make the knife EZ open?

I just hold the blade in my hand and file the point down. There is not much material to remove due to the thin blade. You need a good quality file, though.

EZ open refers to a notch 3/4 of the way down from the pivot, that allows you to pull the blade out without using a nail nick (using thumb and forefinger instead). I'm sure someone will post a photo.

Hey nice work. Here's my 6. Its slimmed down quite a bit to be a hip/shirt pocket knife.

Final product after flattening the handle.
Great pocket carry now. Heck, I can feel my Peanut more than this one.
