Emailed CRK about their coating process for their one piece line.. and received this response:
The KG Gunkote is sprayed on and baked at 325 degrees for 40 minutes. This is basically for the older knives if they are not going to be users. If a knife is a daily user we recommend Cerakote.

I have a 2000s USA made shadow III I carry.. if I wanted to recoat it.. would any of the various spray can cerakote be durable enough to hold up with use? Or my only option to spray that or get a professional cerakote liquid and use a HPLV sprayer then bake in oven? I don’t have a dedicated non food oven hence my question. And didn’t really wanna send it all the way back to The factory given potential for loss and if i could learn how to do it at home it would be a useful fun skill. Could I buy an oven such as this cheap and use the spray can cerakote to help it adhere better?

if you are planning on using a toaster oven get a piece of 1/4" steel plate that fits on the rack. It will minimize the temperature swing... thermal mass or something like that...

I can’t comment on the durability of doing the Cerakote yourself, but a couple of things to keep in mind if you do. Mask off the threads so they don’t get the coating on them, if you don’t, the added thickness might not fit the caps threads. If you just set the knife in the oven, wherever it touches will make a mark in the coating, so you might think about making a bracket with a tube that slips into the hollow handle which will suspend it and not have any touching coated surfaces. One plus would be it you find a process of coating that you like, you will be able to refinish whenever you want to.
