One piece inlay?

I've noticed on the large Sebenza that a two piece inlay is pretty much the standard, until I saw the mammoth picture thread, beautiful knives by the way, the large regular had the one piece inlay but the classic had two piece. Is it possible to order a large classic with one piece inlays? Thanks.

It's a shame, I really prefer the classic handle, it deserves a full inlay IMO.

I'm guessing that it's simply a matter of limiting their product offerings. Working for a manufacturing company, I'm pretty sensitive to the number of product combinations/options that are offered. In the sebenza alone, CRK offers:
  • small, large
  • classic, regular blade/handle shapes
  • polished, stonewashed blades
  • single, double thumb lugs
  • serrations, non-serrated
  • many woods, a couple bone, a couple ivory inlays
  • several CGGs
  • uniques
  • cabacons, gold, gemstones
I may have missed some. It's mind-boggling to think of the process to keep all of the combinations straight, and to do so and be able to deliver product efficiently and quickly (there's a waiting list anyway. . .), CRK must simply have to limit the permutations of options to what they believe the majority of their customers want. Oh, and on top of that, there's mnandis, military knives, the one-piece range, and the inyoni. Whew! It's a hoppin' shop whenever I visit.

I thought it may have been for strength reasons, the extra little ridge of Ti down the center would give it more rigidty. Maybe just for styling, maybe smaller pieces can be utilized for less waste or maybe just cuz.:)

The rigidity reasoning is valid, but the pockets aren't so deep that the little ridge makes a big difference in the overall rigidity relative to the stresses to which the knife is subjected. I resonate with your last comment -- I'd believe it's much harder (more expensive) for CRK to find one large piece of wood than two smaller pieces.

I don`t think its strength reasons-after all the limited annual Sebenzas come with a one piece inlay too, so it can`t really be that. Or at least its not a big issue.

Its probably more to keep the designs of the two models apart, and / or to keep things a little more easy to produce (just as FOOJ suggested).

I would however, really love Classics with one piece inlays (and probably prefer them to the two piece ones)! Please start making them... . :)

Fooj: you forgave about most important option.
Blade steel! You can of course choose S30V or few damascus blades.
Other options are blade swedge, thumblug colour, clip insert...

Adam -- Good point! (pun intended :D ) Large companies would never provide this number of options! Great to have CRK provide as many as they do.

Someone once told me that the Sebenza was the Randall of folders. I love the CRK options, but would also like to get a small classic with a one-piece insert. I'm just getting used to my small, plain classic--and I already want another! :)
