What's going on is this true? Does anyone know why they are being discontinued? When will they stop shipping? Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find a thread or any info on CRK.com.
Thanks

Yes they are being discontinued. You have until December 1 to place your order. The gentleman that has rough ground them in south africa wants to retire, so after much consideration, Chris decided to discontinue them. Its a sad day for sure as the one-piece line is what brought me to CRK. Get one while you can. Check out the CRK newsletter, it explains what I have just said.

How does the hollow grind work for you guys? They look nice I like the Shadow IV. But I like the Tanto more. To bad it's about $150 more. Do they have a good warranty if it breaks or snaps?

CRK Warrenty IS Legendary, so you need not worry. I am sure Chris will have some of each in case of a warrenty issue, or they may make one, but they will make it right........As for the hollow grind, I find it to be excellent. I have never had an issue with any of my one-piece knives and I have alot of them.....

The Shadow IV's are readily available, while a tanto is very difficult to find. My favorite one-piece of all time is the shadow I and jereboam I, but they are of the 9" variety and not practical for everyday use unless you are Grizzley Adams. For everyday use and your able to use or carry a fixed blade knife, by far the Shadow IV is the best choice. Thats if you like the spear point like I do. If your a clip point fan, go for a MKVI, its the same knife, only with a clip point instead of a spear point. I just find the spear point to be the mot durable, plus its different. You see clip points everywhere.

Thanks Nyefmaker. I really like the looks and feel (I have a cutlery shop nearby that stocks all CRK knives) so just a matter of deciding now. Still like the longer Tanto. But the price difference over the Shadow IV is to much.
I assume the shadow has a screw on cap right?
Have you tried slipping a small slip joint or small folder in there?
Also I'm interested in hearing your opinion on the leather sheaths. They look alright to me but I'm wondering if someone sell more tactical style Kydex sheaths for the Shadow IV.

All the One-Piece have the hollow handle with screw on cap. The tanto is an awsome knife also, I have a Tanto I and a Tanto III. The Tanto I was my second CRK after liking the Shdow III so much. The Tanto I is a great slicer, I also used it to clear my deer bling and it sliced through the saplings with ease. I have put a small swiss army knife in my hollow handles in the past, I have the very small swiss army knife ( the $10 victorinox you get at wal-mart for your keychain) in my skinner now and it just fits. The 4"; 5.5";7";9" all have different storage space because of the different size handles, so you can put more in some of them than others.......... As for the leather sheaths, they are top notch, very heavy leather and will certainly last as long as the knife if taken care of properly. When I got my Shadow IV, it was new but pre-owned, it came with a tan blackhawk sheath. I have it up on ebay now; if your interested, let me know and I can put it on here also for you. It fit the Shadow IV very nicely, I just prefer the original leather sheath that came with it is all.
