One Pocket Knife For Life

For 18 years, I've often carried my Endura. It's a great knife but is actually more blade than I usually need. I always have a tiny Opinel #4 in my pocket, but it lacks a lock ring. That makes it less blade than I often need. I enjoy my Opinel #6, but it's a little bulky in the pocket of my jeans. If I had to choose one pocket knife to be my only pocket knife forever, I'd choose a Swiss Bianco Bushcrafter. Thinner and lighter than the Farmer, it has enough blade for any pocket knife task, that great little saw I use over 100 times per year, and the robust awl. It can handle any task my other knives perform and more. It also comes in neat colors. If you had to choose one pocket knife for life, what would you choose?

I read the title, and reread it like 10 times and could have sworn it said one pocket clip for life, and I was really confused...

If I had to have only one knife, it would have to be the Benchmade Mini Griptilian. All the knife one needs, more than sturdy enough, and comes in just about a million options between factory and aftermarket. The runner up would have to be the PM2

This topic is common, but it's still a fun read what people would choose! I have to try a Mini Grip.

It's got to be a SAK. I carry an Explorer Plus and is so handy, If I don't lose this one it should last my life.

For life....umm?
It's not my favorite but for ease of maintance, use (love the Axis lock), blade (M390), comfort and dependability I might go with the Ritter grip.

Life is a long, long time.

This is my most common carry by a very, very wide margin.

I feel I can tackle most anything with this.

Opinel #9 Inox and Leatherman Micra.

Spyderco Manix 2 XL. Big and tough enough for anything I'm going to throw at it, but still retains excellent cutting geometry. I could definitely get by with less blade, but I prefer having the larger, more comfortable handles and ability to easily cut through thick sandwiches and such that a larger folder offers.

It doesn't exist yet, but:

Double-lug Chris Reeve Sebenza 25 Insingo Raindrop Damascus with Snakewood inlays.

That would be the folder I would carry until the end of my days.

So, this style of damascus and this variety of inlay:

But with this handle and size:

And this blade shape:

That is my ideal folder.

I wish i had a more creative answer, but mine would be a para military 2. I like everything about it, blade shape, grind, and size. Handles shape, size, material, lock, and construction.

Easy choice for me, it's the SAK Soldier. I have worn one down to a nub and am currently on my second, and I have two more N.I.B. waiting in the wings. It does everything I need a pocket knife to do, it's small in the pocket, the awl is great for drilling holes, the flat blade screwdiver is a perfect fit for my Winchester action screws, the can opener works much better than a p38.

Vic Pioneer. I've been carrying the same one most days since sometime in the early eighties. Still snaps shut.

All interesting knives. I wouldn't go with the Opinel #9 due to the large size, but you'd have a super cutter. I'd have to forget the SAK Soldier, as it lacks a saw. Still, it makes great sense if you're not in the woods all the time. I don't yet have a Bushcrafter, so I'd have to go with my Endura in my current knives. I agree that having a bit more blade than you usually need is a good thing, and it stays in the pocket better than a Delica.

One pocket knife for the rest of my life?
I don't know.
The knife I have carrried the most over the past few years is far from perfect...and sometimes I want/need a slicey knife, which it definitely isn't. The thing is, no other knife feels as good in my hand; which is why it continues to get the pocket spot over my (large) 21 micarta insingo, 3.5" XM18, SNG CC, Tolk, etc. The traditionals are great; but not for my only knife forever.
Taking all that into consideration, I'm going to say my BRKT Fox River LT. I pocket carry it at least half the time; and there was no specification that it has to be a folder.

The only specification is it has to be carried in the pocket, even a coat pocket. So, the Fox River counts.

Any of the alox SAK's will do, but I'm partial to my old Wenger SI. A Vic pioneer would do as well.
