Hi guys,
I am almost 100% set on getting a benchmade 710 but want to make sure that its not going to be to big to carry. So what i was hoping was that someone could post a scan of their 710 so i will be able to see the knife at the same size as the real thing. Second i was wondering if anyone knew how they are coating the clips on the 710's. Is it like the old ones which seem to be cold blued, or the new ones that are painted? Thanks
John

I can't give you a scan, but I can tell you that a 710 D2 has been my EDC for over a year now. It doesn't really feel very big in the pocket. (I normally wear dress slacks to work, and jeans in the hills. The knife is comfortable in both.)

As for the clip, I immediately removed the clip from mine, and carry it as a regular "pocket knife."

I've owned dozens of folders over the years, but I've never liked one as much as the 710.:)

I have a 710hssr in pocket right now, for a moderately large folder (3.9 inch blade, 9 inches open) it carries good- it is a very solid knife, a classic. Can't post a scan, you might find some comparison shots on the web or on the BM forums. What type of knives have you carried in the past?

Hopefully my picture shows. But you can see the 710 in relation to a few other folders (5th one from the left). It's really a slim design and one of the "smaller" knives when folded. BM made this a very slim package given the size of the blade. I recently picked up the newer D2 model and really like that steel for this folder.

Grab a piece of cardboard or paper, look up the dimensions on the 710, make a rough cut out of the knife, and that should help give you a good idea of its size in your hand.

I order all of my knives on the internet, and using this simple method I've figured out how lots of my knives would fit my small/medium hand size.

I barely feel my 710 D2 in my pocket, it's very slim, and pretty light.

The clip is painted black and started wearing off by the end of the first week I got it, but the rest of it is completely immaculate despite heavy use over the last month. And still almost as sharp as when it came out of the box.

The 710 is a tank of a knife. Big and solid, but it doesn't carry like a big knife.

There's a picture somewhere on the net of a 710 next to a Spyderco Manix. In terms of overall length, the two knives are about the same, but the Manix dwarfs the 710.

Like others have said, the clip is painted and scratches easily. It's been my EDC for about a year and a half (I have the 154cm version, got it a few weeks before it was discontinued and the switch to D2) and the clip is scratched up... but it gives the knife character, so I have no plans on replacing it.

The G10 has held up very well despite taking some falls onto concrete (and last week when I was walking up the street from the mailbox it went flying out of my hand and hit the road pretty hard).

After a year and a half of every day carry I finally took it apart for a good cleaning and it's just as good as new.

Great knife and worth every penny you spend on it.

The 710 is a great knife, it's slim so It doesn't feel big in your pocket but it fills your hand and it has a great edge. I picked up a Kyocera 6" sharpening stick for sharpening it, and after about half a dozen passes on each side it's shaving sharp, albeit I don't dull my knives very much before I sharpen them.
