I do like the look of the various yeller handled knives I have seen pictured here. I think old carbon steel and yeller handles look right together.

But perhaps a stronger motivation goes back to my grandad, who got me started carrying a pocket knife. It was my desire to be like him that drove me as an eight or nine year old boy to save my pennies, proudly walk into James Hardware and lay my hard-earned cash on the counter to purchase my very own knife, the Colonial barlow.

I have told the story on more than one occasion of the Schrade Walden 708Y I gave him on what turned out to be his last Christmas with us, and how my grandma gave it back to me the following Christmas, just weeks after his untimely passing.

It just seemed right to have both of these knives that are so closely associated with my grandad sporting those bright yeller handles.
