i bought this old sh a couple of months ago off ebay. it was beat and loved all too well. this morning i started to see what i could do with it.

soaked in kroil to loosen screws
stripped what was left of smooth coat with red devil
sanded with 80 then 120 grit oxide
reinstalled old screws and ground them
shot the snot out of it with silica sand (100psi)
shot again with 60-100 glass beads at 40psi
douched it down with wd-40

here is the end result and my new (old) user

Garnished with some plastic fruit, it would be beautiful.

Idaho,

The SH looks good; I like the finish on the blade! :D Thank you for the pics and details of how you did it. Do you use anything to clean the micarta?

Gene

i usually just use hot water and dish soap to clean them. on this knife i bead blasted the handles right along with the screws. i had to do that cause the screws get shiny marks on them when screwing them back on. i hate shiny screws, just like the ruff ones! :D

Only thing cooler looking than a black Steel Heart is a bead blasted one.

Very nice job.

You must have been blessed by the Gods of Steel. That is just daisy. (I was watching Tombstone w/ Kurt Russell, great movie.)

Good job! That looks very professional.

BTW, that SH is not a common incarnation. There weren't too many smooth handled INFI SH2's (which yours is, indicated by the slotted screws).

I believe there are some A2 with the slotted screws and some INFI. Sorry, I presumed this one was INFI for some reason. So, it could be either of the steels. Jerry? :D
