Are all the Emerson knives a one sided grind? Like do they only sharpen one side of the blade? Thanks guys.

none of the emersons are a conventional "v" grind, like a spyderco delica would be, they arent really a chisel grind either (except the tanto's) and cut just fine and are no harder to sharpen than anything else, but if ya are looking for a conventional "v" grind look elsewhere.

A couple of years ago I bought a commander with the one sided edge. I got along with it for a while but it got to where when I needed to sharpen it I liked it less and less. Pretty soon I threw it back in my safe and took my big old BenchMade Skirmish back out and that is what is in my pocket every day. I will never get tired of that old knife and I can sharpen the thing without a bunch of cussing.

I really think my Emerson's are the easiest knives to sharpen that I own. That being said it did take me awhile to come around to liking them. Now they are the only knives I can sharpen free hand.

once ya get the hang of it, and have the proper tools to do it (i use a norton 8" india stone and a gerber steel) the EKI grinds are easier to sharpen than a std "V" grind.

personally i'd just grind the other side with my 1x30 belt sander-give it a 320 grit flat grind

i have had a couple of commanders which were 'v' ground one by the owner and another was done professionally by someone, they worked ok, the professionally done one worked as well as any other 'v' grind i suppose, the other was a little funky, all in all though i would stick with the original grind myself, i suppose i am a traditionalist lol, i ended up swapping both of the 'v' ground ones FWIW.

none are a conventional "v" grind like say a spyderco delica PE FWIW.

IIRC they do call some a "v" grind & they may well fall within that definition but they are not a traditional conventional "v" grind & if you look at how they describe the grind ya will see that.

love the Emerson "V" grind. Takes about 5 seconds to sharpen and strop. wish my other blades were this easy to get wicked sharp.
