one sided secondary bevel

Hello all,

I have noticed a large number of production knives with the secondary (or edge) bevel only ground on one side. They will have the primary bevel ground on both sides and I've even noticed them with either flat or hollow ground primary bevels. Is there any advantage to this other than cost savings?

I have to admit from using a couple of knives with this I do not like them at all. I really hope it's not a trend to stay or that it doesn't catch on with custom knives much.

Thanks,

Charles

Cost savings IMO. I have never bought into the supposed "tactikewl" advatages of chisel grinds. The single bevel on the bottom of the double will also pull your cutting edge to one side as you sharpen it away if my thinking is correct.

I hope TN is treating you well! I saw Bear Creek Bill the other day. The family and I are headed to Austin Texas.

So far TN is great. I've started a casual learning/apprentice with the Graham Brothers. That's going great. Love their knives, and great guys too. It's nice not having to blow/shovel snow at all.

Saw where you guys are moving. Hope that goes well, smooth, and somewhat cheaply.

You'll have to post some pics of your work. I've got a couple of kit knives done and am working on my first file blade knife. I'm happy with it so far but haven't gotten the bevels in yet.

WOW you are a lucky fellow. The Graham brothers make great knives and I am always impressed with there handle work. They melt into the steel.

I am trying to get a friend to take sopme pics of my latest batch of knives but I havent managed to get a new digital camera yet. Trying to master the infamous compound grind ATM lol. Good luck on your knife and God bless.
