Who says you cant make a one sided sheath. That's an Izula on the sheath works for the Izula 2 as well. Rare earth magnets have some real gripping power. Comments anyone? Ken

I did a similar thing with a concealed sheath sewn within a belt that I made. I used one of the rare earth magnets to hold a cold steel urban pal in place because I didn't want to add a retention strap. Upon getting out of my car, the little "pig sticker" was laying on my seat, point up! I never wore that belt again!

Was the magnet actually touching the blade. The retention ability changes very fast as they move apart. Makes a big difference. Ken

I'd rather see a loose "blade covering" using the earth magnent as retention as opposed to a semi-exposed edge. Seems like theres a lot that could go wrong here.

I think the concept is fine for quick access to the knife around the home, car, boat, shop, etc.....but to be wearing it, the blade should be covered for safety reasons.
Attach another layer of plastic to this one and you're good to go.

For this one I used a magnet found in discarded hard-drives....very thin and VERY strong.

The magnets that I take out of old hard-drives are far stronger, thinner, and lighter than any I've been able to find for sale when looking for 'rare earth magnets.' They are so strong, they're actually dangerous to use at times, snapping on my finger! And because they are so thin, if you use a 5-6oz leather, they don't even imprint so not noticeable. Two of them will hold a 7" K-bar upside down so well that even jumping up and down with it will retain the knife securely.

Yeah Ken, The magnet was not in direct contact with the blade. There was no way to keep the magnet in place without sewing it between 2 pieces of leather. It was just a concept belt that I was toying with. It's a great idea for a neck knife sheath.

Gorilla Glue makes a "crazy glue" type product that is somewhat rubberizes. I will grab the smooth side of the magnet and just about anything else it comes in contact with. It does not gas out to much so there is no white film to clean up afterwards. To answer some of the other questions here. I have the blade recessed into the Kydex quite deep there are no exposed edges. Also the magnet is a 54 (52, I forget now) on the magnetic scale. Thats as strong as you can get for these rare earth magnets. For the knife to pop out of the sheath would take something very very abrupt. At that point likely you would have bigger problems at that point. You actually have to slide it away from the magnet you cant just pull it off. I like the input keep it up guys keep it up. As someone said there is an application for this method just going to take a few of us to figure it out. Thanks, Ken

"Shoe-Goo" will hold onto the smooth side of the magnets, especially if you build up a sort of puddle with the stuff, and press the magnet down into it. Just a smear of Shoe-Goo over the top of the magnet will both lock it in as well as protect the blade from getting scratched. Find it at Wal-mart, Amazon, Target, and most hardware/home centers.
