Guys, I recently am returning, to the good ole traditional, from the tactical knives ;)
I have a nice 112 and just purchased a 110, I would also like a smaller buck for edc on the job.

Been looking, and it seems either the Buck 55 or 501 is the one step down from the 112. Somehow I like the look of the 55 more than the 501, but the blade is shorter. So...501,55 or am I missing one?
Thanks fellas :D

Hi DC50,

The 501 is larger than the 55. The 55 is the same size as the 503, 55 has clip point, the 503 drop point.

Thanks jb, It looks like the 501 is my best bet, for a wee bit smaller, than the 112

Thanks David, I think I'll grab a 501 first, but as we all know, the 55 will follow shortly there after :p

What about the "Duke"? I beleive it's the one between the 501 and the 112. But a 501 is also a good choice. It was my first buck knife back in the 70's! The Esquire as it was called at that time.

The 500 and the 112 are pretty much the same size though. The 500 is thinner side to side by about an 1/8, but the blade is actually about an 1/8" longer than the 112's

When you say the 500, do you mean the 501? Then thats what I'm looking for, :) something similar in size, but thiner than the 512.

No, I was just responding to seaplanes suggestion of a 500 as being between the 112 and 501 in size. If you're wanting something smaller than the 112, the 500 isn't really it. The 501 is more what you want for sure.

Here's a 112Fg and a 500 together.

Great pics and comparison Plumberdv. I guess the 500 always just felt slimmer than a 112 and I never really put ehm side by side. The 501 or maybe even a 532 would be a good choice to backup a 112. The 112 is kind of boxy and thick.

I think youre right seaplane, the 500 definitely "carries" smaller than the 112 because of its slimline design. I love it. It is a great office/gentlemans carry knife. Because if its n/s bolsters and rosewood scales it seems to appear smaller/proper for office, more like a classy piece of furniture.

Oh yeah-532 good choice as well

great pics Plum

First of all, I assume you meant to say a 112 rather than 512. If that's the case, it seems to me that the 532 would fit that bill perfectly!! Currently out of production, but you can still find them around (on ebay).

Yeah, the 112 has always seemed a littly clunky to me. If they had scaled it down from the 110 proportionaly, I'd like it better.

[BPlumberdvB] Thank you very much for the pic's there great!
Also thanks to all, for your input, I must say it's a little more friendly here, than some of the other area's in BF

Oh yea, Alberta Ed you do realize we live in the same town eh :p

You're welcome dc, anytime.

You know, the new smaller Vantage Pro is a great little knife too, but it's not as traditional looking as the others.
