A customer showed me strap of thick harness leather which is I beleived leather, which I mentioned before which is used for soles of shoes. So I made pancake which is very stiff so time will show how it will be. Customer will grow very thick forearms pulling his knife out of sheat. This is back side of sheat.he wanted natural colour and he wil somehow wet form and after that will oil sheat, because I didnt had a knife in my possesion

If that really is a sole bend (which it looks to be) then about the only way it will be wet formed is in a industrial grade vacuum press. One ply of that should be about 8 mm thick (1/4" +-).

Good luck!

Paul

My appologies Paul, I know what you said for that leather last time I asked about it, but this is 5mm(1/5" thick one ply,and customer wanted so I had to try

Sole bend leather is one of those I use for people that want a sheath or holster that is a bit above the normal on wear resistance. Military being one of those people that want something tough and not kydex. Noise makers like plastic are not on their list of things to have on you in a quiet zone.

Sole leather doesnt bend well, doesnt mold well, but it does what it was meant to do, Wear Well. It is a good thing when you use it as its intended and not try to make it do something it doesn't do well.

You did well! Work with it like you did and you and your customer will be happy. Just dont try to force it to do what it doesn't want to do, you wont be happy any more. :p

Where I work we make orthopaedic shoes. Sometimes we wet leather with alcohol (spiritus) to form it

With the alcohol tho, it will dry the leather out. It needs reconditioned after. But it works well and dries fast, and removes any surface coating the factory aplies to the leather which prevents oils and dyes from soaking in.
