My all time favorite GEC pattern is the #66 Serpentine Jack. Small enough and thin enough to be very pocketable, but large enough for a 4-finger grip and enough blade to do the lion's share of what I want a pocket knife to do. And I have also come to love the Yellow Rose series, which has become my favorite cover/shield choice. My only problem was I missed out on the initial run of the #66 Yellow Rose, and couldn't find one to save my life.

Well, after much determined searching, annoying anyone and everyone I thought could help, I finally lucked out! Forum regular poster and great guy, Rockgolfer, clued me in to one up for sale on the big auction site. Low and behold, there it was, apparently new in the tube, and only a "Buy It Now" click away. Needless to say, I snatched it up!

After the longest few days I have experienced in a long time, it finally arrived! Here she is:

What a great little knife! The usual excellent fit and finish from GEC, with very good snap without being a nail breaker. And the yellow jigged bone is awesome. There was one slight problem with the pen blade. It was set slightly proud, with the blade tip slightly exposed above the pile side cover. A couple of minutes with a dremel on the blade kick solved that problem.

Here is the knife after a week of use, with the start of a nice little patina:

In a way, I am sad to see the "yellow Rose" blade etching fading away. Most of the GEC blade etches don't appeal that much to me, but I like the yellow rose etching a lot. Fortunately the budding patina looks even better!

Is anyone else a fan of the yellow rose series?

Great score! I love that knife & its hard to come by. I only have one yellow rose but its the 76 Outlaw Jack pattern.

Well done Bob-but does the etch fade? or is it merely obscured by patina?
heres my yellow with its teammates.

The etch is shallow enough, it will completely disappear. Mine is gone.

Love my 357 Wrangler Yellow Rose

The smooth bone looks fantastic on your, Meako's and Jkulysses's Yellow Roses! The only smooth bone one I have is the Abilene stockman, and for some reason I think y'alls looks nicer. I little more "depth" to the bone, or something.

I wonder how GEC decides whether to use jigged or smooth bone? You would think they would go smooth on the smaller knives and jigged on the larger patterns, but that doesn't look to be the case.

This jigged yellow rose Cattle Baron is one of the most perfect build quality knives I own.

I picked up a Cattle Baron YR on the for sale forum a little while back, and have to also agree on the build quality. A stout well made knife, for sure! Here is a close up of mine:

Very nice! Is it my eyes or did you make the groove to access the nail nick bigger?

It's not something that I did, but now that you mention it, it does look larger than the other two cattle barons shown here. My knife did come with the spey blade modified to a spear tip, so maybe the previous owner also enlarged the nick groove as well. If he did, it was a darn good job. I would have never guessed it didn't come from the factory that way!

I love the yellow bone runs they do but the Rotten Banana bone 66 Jack was my grail knife & I finally found it here on the exchange. I love it & wish they would do another run of it on some other patterns.

Yes, I agree, great covers and shields in this series. I had to have a #76 in smooth bone. It's been in my pocket consistently for the last two months. I'm really enjoying that shade of yellow.

That's a great looking knife!

A Rotten Banana Pemby would work for me!

1 of 1 Proto of the 2011 Yellow Rose Cuban Stockman

Nice!! :thumbup::thumbup::)

Jeff, did they actually to a production run of the YR Cuban stockman? The GEC website only shows the Cattle Baron and the Cattle Rancher, if I remember right. I do like the California clip main blade on the Cubans.
