I wanted to publicly thank our friend across the Atlantic Mr. Jack Black for a very nice package that arrived yesterday. After reading many of Jack's fantastic tales of his forays around Sheffield I recognized a literary talent and thought he might appreciate a book by one of my favorite authors who shared a certain affinity for history, walking, and rumination. So I sent Jack the book, an Old Flamingo Casino token (for good luck), and a small Opinel I had modified. Well just in time for Christmas he returned the gift with not one, not two, not three, but - count them - 1,822 blades.

not only that but a very nice 1899 Victorian Penny and a Crown Cork Opener

Well Jack thank you so much for the kind package. The Opener is already on my keychain and the Penny is riding in my coin pocket.

Happy Holidays to everyone and a Happy New Year!

Lemmy, a well versed "thank you" to our good man Jack:thumbup: I too just rec'd a care package from Jack...sorry that I have not posted my "thank you" yet my friend:o

Congrats on the fine items Jack sent you Lemmy:thumbup:

Jack, you are pretty amazing as you purposely search for items that members here take an interest in, that to me is a special thing:thumbup:

Again, a great thread...thanks Lemmy:)

And Jack...I can easily read your writing on Lemmy's post card;):D

What a guy! Is this what is known as a penny farthing? Anyway, 2 packages sent across the pond to each, what could be better?

Ahh...another member of Club Jack! Love the 1899 penny. The old opener is a dandy. Well done as usual Jack:D

Great write up Lemmy!! Always a pleasure to see the generosity flowing

Great gestures of friendship! I've always enjoyed Jacks journeys. My wife has even perused and enjoyed a few.

So how many years was the "year knife" made, or was that a one time thing.

Yeah, the Yorkshire guy named Jack is legendary. I once won a knife giveaway from him and got a pipe tool, bottle opener, pipe wind cap, collectable ceramic figurine, and other treasures. Oh yeah, there was even a knife in there!!

He's something special, our Jack from Yorkshire is!
:D

Thanks for telling this tale of reciprocating generosity!:thumbup:
I enjoy this kind of thread any time, but it's especially nice for the holiday season.
Kudos, Lemmy & Jack.

Love the opener! Congrats on the care package! Jack just keeps proving he's one of the most thoughtful and generous members of this forum!

I'm glad that the wee package arrived Lemmy, and hope your party went well. Thanks for the kind words guys :o I love to be able to send a package to someone, and I have a couple of Thank You threads to post myself :)

And Jack...I can easily read your writing on Lemmy's post card;):D

LOL! It took me 2 days to write that card Paul! ;) :D

So how many years was the "year knife" made, or was that a one time thing.

There's only one like that :) It now has 2000 blades, and here's a pic of me and Duncan standing next to it :)

its a book called "Rings of Saturn" by W.G. Sebald. Can't say there's much knife content in it, though...

Here's a pic of the book WITH knife content (the customised Opinel Lemmy sent me a while back - and the casino token) ;)

Happy Holidays everyone :)

Jack
