I'd love to have a copy. It doesn't have to be laminated and I'll pay for postage.

Thanks

Thanks David, I'm not exactly sure when I'll start. But I'm thinking about a work in progress here. I'm gonna have a lot of questions and need some help from some of the more experienced makers. Thanks again.

Mr. Boone, I recieved my copy of the plans for the Musso Bowie today. Thanks again for sending it. I did not realize that it was hollow ground, I was thinking flat ground. As of now I'm only set up for flat grinding. I plan on purchasing another grinder soon and it will be one of my first projects after I familarize myself with the new grinder. I will definitely do a WIP and post it here when I start. Thanks again.

Darrin, can you take a clear picture with a ruler for scale (I know it has the markings on there, please humour me :-) Im not saying I will do one but I would love to try. I am set up for hollow grinding but it may take me a year or so to make it hehe. David do you mind if someone else does one?

Darrin,
I believe the blade on the Musso bowie is hollowground at the ricasso, fading to flat grind about a third of the way up the blade, seems I remember Wick Ellerbee doing one and he spoke of that. I would second the request to take a clear pic with a ruler and post here. Been wanting to do one of these for some time.

It is slightly hollow at the ricasso and maybe 2" to 2 1/2" Here is a photo of of it and mine. You can see the shadowing of the hollow on the original. The drawing done by Joe is much better than the one I see in these threads, and includes most all measurements. The blade at the guard is 7/32" thick, and tapers to 3/16" around the false edge, then holds that thickness to very near the point. The weight of the original is only 1 lb, 12 oz. The original guard is 1/4" thick and was a brass sand casting. I made mine, took three tries, from 3/8" by filing out the center. I tried 1/4" brass twice, and was unable to get enough width on the tips, and still get the tip thickness correct.

As far as I know, the only place you can get them is from Joe Musso, or someone who has them and would do a copy for you. I made a promise and can't. Google Joe's name up, and see if you can find a contact for him. However, the drawings above should get you by, if the drawing is layed out accurately enough to take measurements from. It looks right. By the way, the grip wood is not known for sure. It may or may not be oak. It was never tested. I don't mind giving you any unknown measurements, but I can't give you a copy of the drawing by Joe.

LRB: this is a better photo of my Musso Bowie. And in the June 2011 issue of Blade Mag. on page 48 there is a good article on the "BRASS BACK BOWIE RECONSIDERED" By ED FOWLER

LRB - would you please relate the availability of that Alamo Journal? Or date of printing or issue number, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ed, very odd you should ask. I was thinking about that magazine last night, and I don't remember where I put it. I will try and find it today. It was put out by Arnold Chernof. I bought it as a back issue. I will try and find it.

ED, I was wrong. The publisher is William Chemerka. Back issues are $5.00. It looks like issue 84 Dec. 1992. I still cannot find my copy, but that's what the pic looks like to me. Hope that helps. If I find my issue, I will surely let you know. I cannot find a phone #, or email, but maybe you can.

For those who asked and anyone else who is interested I will try to take a few pics of the drawing and post them here. But be warned my photography is poor.
