Tops Mil Spie.its not the prettiest knife out there but I trust it will always be there when needed.15228120215612914439917072753980.jpg 15228120409286865858331443345030.jpg 15228120584601951519281055810617.jpg 15228120774225830952236574417023.jpg 152281209689083400499839409467.jpg 1522812119207307691860923884292.jpg

It definitely has taken a beating.

People can tell you this knife or that knife is or isn't the toughest...ect, but this is how you find out.
It's proven to you that it's tough

True, i take it apart now and again to clean and lube. Its still a solid knife. Ive been tempted to replace but theres no reason, i scrape tape off insulated IG's, use as a prybar, etc. The heighth of the blade makes it very strong.

Personally, I like to see a well used knife, a knife that has been used as a tool. I always wonder when I see the constant posts looking for a "hard use" knife (45 years working in the construction trades and still don't know what that is) that can relied on in life or death situations. Or peeling an apple. Or halving a sandwich.

Folks show their "hard use" folders and to me it looks like an unboxing video as the blades dont' even have evidence of sharpening in some cases. So how does one know they have a hard worker if it has never been to work on a job site, as a hunting/camping/fishing knife for several seasons, or a knife that is used a lot all day long? I dunno.

I have enough work knives now that none of them look excessively worn, but my oldest knives are pretty well worn. They should be! I carried a couple of CASE folders on site for about 10 - 12 years every single day in my jeans at the job site because they worked well for me. The heads on the scale rivets popped off (scales currently held on by dirt and sweat residue), the CASE emblem is about 1/2 worn off, and the blade has an odd blue color to it in certain light. The scales went from a beautiful ruby color to a nasty chocolate brown. Still has another lifetime in it, though.

Good to see a knife that has earned its place and reputation as a real working knife.

I have knives where the blade and scales were once black now 25% left. Sign of a good knife ;)
One question for you. I have a pocket clip with 1 screw like this one. It turns all over and moves. Will never buy a knife with 1 screw in clip like that.
Does yours turn?

Thought this thread was about me after reading the title....

Good looking knife!

I forgot. I'm not a tough SOB, I'm just a SOB.

It's recessed. Doesn't move.

I forgot to mention the knife sharpens easily and the edge holds up well enough. Solid knife right about 100 bucks.

That's awesome! I never baby my knives but I never - unfortunately - if ever need to use my knives that hard.

Well, I wouldn't say unfortunately! You probably don't get to use them that hard because A) you have more suitable tools on hand for the task being B) Your regular tasks do not require any hard cutting

I don't get to use my knives that hard either, but given enough time, they end up looking well used anyways.

Nice! I have several Tops, but they're all fixed. I've wondered about their folders but never taken the plunge.

I have this Buck/Tops CSAR T which I said will be my construction knife if I need one. So far I haven’t used it.

Here it’s the knife on the right. It has a weird construction where the knife is just many layers of steel. Pretty sure this is a knife you don’t want to take apart.

There's a lot of "adventures" written on that blade... just as it should be. I have an old Para 1 in my garage that just won't die! My wife has tried to kill it many times in our yard and garden and it has the scars to prove it. My Wicked Edge just keep bringin' it back.

Edge of glass will mar up the finish. On your windows in your house the glass is held in place by a tough double sticky tape. Reusing the glass after removing it from the frame leaves tape and foam residue around the perimeter.
That tape needs to be removed and this knife has scraped lots of it.

You cant take those apart. You have to drill out a pair of pins from the stack opposite the pivot. Same construction as the buck alpha hunter folder, just with a thicker lock bar. You can take the blade out and faff with the pivot and washers if you need to, but its a PITA to reassemble sometimes.

Black painted finishes always show too much wear prematurely, but that knife has seen some jobs for sure.
Should send that pic around to some of the dolts in this community who do 'long term' reviews.. you know the dude, mr "I've had this knife for three months and it sat on the shelf for 2 of them, so I have a good understanding of this knife at this point" who whips out his spotless and unmarred ano'd titanium knife without even a scratch on the clip from being carried thru a 'rough use' area or any corners worn from pocket time. And boy howdy does that snowflake freak out when you point these things out on their comment section... "I take care of MY tools, apparently you need confined to cold steel knives because you must abuse and neglect YOUR tools, rube."

LOL.. some people clearly take themselves too seriously.

LOL... Can I "like" this post twice?

Everybody enjoys their knives the way they want to, and collecting is fine. I certainly have more knives than I can ever wear out at this point in my life, and probably never even use more than a few percentage points of their capability.

I see this with the young guys in construction all the time. They don't want to get their tools dirty, and they hate it when they do. They spend a fortune on some of their tools, but when we are on a rough, dirty, job site in in bad weather they always want to use my tools so theirs won't get dirty, scuffed or damaged. Later on though, over a beer they will recall to yhe boys how they put their tools through their paces under some rough conditions and the are pleased at how well they held up. Easy to do when they never saw the light of day taking them in and out of the truck.

The clip thing kills me on knives. You literally cant go to work in some trades without having to grub around inside or under something at some point at least weekly, and a knife clipped into your pocket is going to show that it got introduced to the inside of the chip pipe somehow. No way around it. Also the pocket wear.. you cant frikkin tell me you carried it for any time ar all if the ano isnt even shinied in certain places. Hell, you'd never have to even take it out of your pocket for either of these forms of wear to accumuate, so you cant ever tell me about your long term relationship with a blade that doesnt have them with my taking you seriously happening at the same time.
