Frist, I just got a new Mini-grip P/S and after cutting some zipties and some Cat5e cable I lost two teeth on the serations. I have always been warrie of any of Benchmades serations.

Then a co-worker asked to use my knife, I threw my 710 D2 to him left the room then started to think bad idea. When I came back in the room he had used it to pull up some carpet so I checked the tip and it was now missing. He says he will replace it. :(:(

anyone else have problems with benchmade seration or D2 steel? I'm a bit shocked that carpet could break the tip of a knife.

Perhaps that is why your tip broke off, knives are tools, but prying up carpet is not one of them. Cutting the carpet is ok, but I bet he stuck against one of the tack strips around the edge of the room.

Sorry for your loss,
I hope he does buy you a new one.
James

I hate serrations, I don't get them in any of my knives ( except for the LMF II), because once there broken there gone forever, no getting on the edge pro and fixing them. As for the tip, you can send it to a knife maker here on BF and they will put the tip back on for you.

Can anyone give me some info on someone who can regrind my tip. Please

I cut voice & data cable every day... using a pair of Klein electrician's scissors. Sure is a lot easier than using a knife. :D

Same here , get those or get yourself a multitool with the wire cutters built in.

A thin tipped flatblade screwdriver or mini prybar/scraper could be used for carpet instead of the tip of your knife.

There are always alternatives.

If you cannot resist loaning out your knives, carry a cheap replacable knife for that purpose. I had a friend who would constantly bring me his knives to resharpen after loaning them out to idiots.Nicked edges, cutting cardboard while it is lying on concrete, the occassional missing tip, etc. I finally told him to learn to sharpen them himself. He hasn't loaned out his knife since :) My theory on the subject is that if someone doesn't carry their own blade, I don't trust em with mine.

That's basically how I feel. To some of my friends, it's "just a knife". They might not realize how much that particular knife means to me, or that I paid $200 for it, not $20.

That being said, my friends all know that I ALWAYS have a knife, and therefore quite often ask to use it. I never give them the knife, I make the cut for them.

NEVER, EVER loan out your "baby" to the non-knife people of the world. For many they have no idea how or what to use it for, and more importantly, what NOT to use it for! I edc a Case Barlow in my left front pocket that only gets loaned out to someone I think can do the right thing with a knife, otherwise I will offer to do the cutting myself. I never ever loan out my right front pocket knife....NEVER!

That sucks.... I have a mini grip with serrations. I used it hard for about four years and never had a problem. I still prefer a knife without them though.
I only have two friends that I let use a quality knife, everyone else gets to use the junk.

i learned young that the only one to touch my blades is me i spent my time in shop class makeing a bowie( you could do this in the 70s ) took forever to make and 5 mins. for some clown i lent it to to break

When I get home I will take a picture, it's not much really but it's still broken and I would like it pointy.
Thanks for all the addvice I think when asked I'll say no or I'll cut it for you.

I think I will try to get in touch with one of the above guy to help me out.

Thanks.
