A letter from Lynn Thompson.

Dear BladeForums,

We regret to inform you that the knives made from A-2 steel will not be delivered. We have made two attempts to obtain high quality A-2 steel but in both instances the steel was found to be inferior and knives made from it could not pass our high standard. We will be switching the knives in question to 4034 Stainless which we can obtain in very high quality and which has proven to be extremely tough and strong in our tests.

Sincerely,

Lynn C. Thompson
President - Cold Steel, Inc.

Excuses:

covid
the world is ending
coronavirus
You didn't give us enough time
the delta variant
olympics took time away
sell to GSM changed everything
GSM is still getting organized
dog ate the plans
Donald Trump issues
still training employees to not respond to emails, telephone calls, or any communication
producing products for $200 that costs us $40 for a better profit margin
we listened to the negative input and cancelled the plans with no announcement
OH YEAH THAT?? we forgot
the boat is full
unemployment we can't find workers
the bridge is closed
Bladeforums?? sorry never heard of it

Cold steel often announces products before being fully tested and ready for shipping

Please leave a message after the tone and we will respond to your call as soon as possible
Yeah just delete them all forget about our old customers.

As i said at the time, the 4034 nonsense (along woth the degradation of the rest of tyeir line up) was the major tell that they were in serious financial trouble. Now that version of Cold Steel is gone. This might lead some to conclude that the troubles are over. I disagree.

I SUSPECT... key word there... that the new owners have already paid themselves back by burying the Cold Steel company under a mountain of debt. This being the reason for the now absurd asking prices and reduced quality of their products. In order to survive now Cold Steel needs you to spend way more than the product is worth.

The best way to pull this trick is to market yourself as a lifestyle brand. Note that they seemed to be floundering that way in a couple videos. Now they have Stuckman, they have drug Lynn and the old crew out of the unemployment line, but the problem is simple. The Cold Steel name is built on two things: great value for the money, and weapons and tools you can trust.
