One year of EDC wear on a 21 lock bar

I have been EDC-ing my large 21 Micarta for a year now. It came with 80% lock-up and stays at 80% lock up. This knife has seen daily carry and use, as well it's fair share of compulsive opening and closing in front of the TV or on long drives for work. Inspecting the lock-bar face, there is a very slight rounding of the corner where the blade engages, and the detent ball has a small flat spot on it. On the blade there is a small dent where the detent ball rides up on the steel and no other signs of use other than concentric scratches from the washers. This is very confidence inspiring to me. I think you'd really have to work at it to wear one of these knives out. If you have a couple in your rotation, you're likely good for a hundred years or so.

Nice thread, I was looking at my blades last night.

I noticed very little wear on mine as well, despite constant opening and closing.

This whole early lock-up obsession is a youtube invention by someone with too much time on his hands.

This is the lock face on a Regular Sebenza that was bought new in 2000 and carried for years before it was gifted to me a couple of years ago. I still carry it as you can see by the lint. :p

If you use your knife as a knife it will last for a very, very long time. If you want to play stupid games with it and try to prove one thing or another it won't, it is that simple. :)

These are very well built knives, if taken care of they will last a lifetime! I find it interesting that your detent flattened like that, none of mine have done that.

Here's a pic of my large micarta classic user just for comparison. Definitely shows more wear on the lock face but is still rock solid.
For some reason, the pic makes the face appear to have a serious deformation. But it doesn't. Other than a bit of flaking(?).
