Onehander with screwdriver/opener?

That's all I want.

A onehander blade with a tool on it---a screwdriver/bottle-opener. And a pocketclip. It should be slim.

The Wave and the SAK Trekker don't count. Close but no cigar.

I guess you could call it a two-blade one-hander. Only I don't need the second blade to be sharp. I need it to be a practical tool. If someone wanted to add more than one tool, fine.

The Schrade Avatar is a weird 2-blade knife...but they're both sharp. so it doesn't count either. (See one at: http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_maker/s_through_z/schrade/schrade_avatar_large_.html) Who needs two blades? Who needs a blade and a tool? I rest my case. I mean, sure, some people like two blades. I would even. But MORE people would appreciate having a common tool be the other blade, I think.

Of course it has to be ambi, coz I'm a lefty. And it, of course, should have a convertible clip. (Is that asking too much?)

Thanks for your thoughts and pointers on this topic! --JP

Jeff, welcome to Bladeforums.

I can't think of any common item that fits your description. Most of us who like tools on our knives go for the bigger multitools -- for which we now even have a specialized forum here.

Let's see if someone else comes up with one I'm missing. :D

The closest I can think of is the V-nox Bantam. A single blade and a combo bottle/can opener/screwdriver. No lock or clip.

Spyderco's SpydeRench.
Hard to get and not ambi, but it fits your description.

There are only a few that come to mind that fit "most" of your needs...
None hit on all...

1) Buck Crosslock Yachtsman, it's going to be hard to find since it's not made anymore... but it doesn't have a clip or lefthanded. If the clip was a big deal you can swap the blades from other crosslocks pretty easy... just buy a double blade model with a clip and switch the blade for the opener.

2) Kershaw "National Geographic" Carabineer tool... it's got everything but a real pocket clip... it's even left handable.

3) If the lock is "optional" Camillus makes a "Dura Tool" that might cover most of your needs... it's also sold as "What a Knife"

4) Buck is making a new knife... the "Metro" that you might check into as well. It's not very big and "not really a knife" but I thought I should at least list it.

Like I said... tough list.
Good luck on your quest.

Hi all... Thanks for the tips. I've seen some of these items already.

As for it being a tough request list for a knife, I'm really trying to keep it simple.

It's just a standard onehander with an extra blade-tool off the back. There are probably hundreds or even a thousand onehander designs out there now. I'm just asking for an extra blade/tool off the back. Keep everything else the same. That would be good enough! (The ambi request is already common to a good chunk of the onehander designs.)

I'll post this request over at the new Multitool forum as well.

Thanks again! --JP

Check out the Gerber Nautilus. Perhaps a bit too thick but it might fit the bill.

Thanks Mithril... Yeah, I'd seen that one. Very close! Maybe if I broke off the flashlight... : ) I haven't seen one in person. Needs a pocketclip. If it has a sheath it's probably thick, as you say. Too bad all tools are at one end---probably making it thick. Why not a couple tucked off the back of a regular onehander? KISS. Someday! I mentioned my wish for an item like this and my local knifeshop owner said "You and me both." --JP

I've been thinking about building such a knife for quite some time. A double ended framelock, 1/8" thick titanium, heavy duty pivots, S30v blade, 3V prybar/screwdriver/opener on the other end. One of the problems that comes up with this type of design is that the blade becomes rather short proportionately to the frame. I think you would do better to just have a single bladed tanto type design that you could pry with, truly keeping it simple. :)

What if someone expanded on the Camillus Dura-tool? What I mean by this is why not make it a lockback, but have it made in such a way that there is only one lock for both blades. The pivot will be shared but will be extra beefy and the pry "blade" will be only about an inch to an inch and a half to help prevent breakage. One of my grandfather's old knives is like this except it does not have an incorporated bottle opener in the unsharpened blade.

Just a little more info for the lock.... The lock should be slotted to help accomodate(sp?) the spacer between the blades.

Another idea is to use a liner lock for the blade on the left side of the knife and a lockback on the right for the pry blade. Let me know what you guys think... these ideas probably aren't that good but I haven't slept in a while...

I still carry my boyscout knife from 10yrs ago...EVERY day. Its my keychain in fact. Additionally, I carry a Spyderco Police in S/S, a regular ol golfers pencil, and my business card holder. I have been thinking of getting one of the "credit card" multi tools... we'll see.

How about either the Victorinox Adventurer or Centurion ? They lack a pocket clip, but have a locking blade as well as the opener/screwdriver with a minimum of other tools. And about as slim as an SAK can get.
