This is for the knives you should have bought, or bought and sold. I have one of each.
I had a chance to handle GenO Denning's prototype subhilt fighter a couple of times before it sold. Each time I reminded myself that I really didn't need a subhilt. Then it was gone and I realized what a groundbreaking piece I missed out on!
I had a nice Kit Carson large model 4 with damascus blade and mammoth ivory handles. I sold it at the SECK show last September. Then I saw it in Knives 2001 a few weeks later. I love to collect customs that have appeared in publication. By then, it was too late!
What wonders have you been too slow to pick up or have missed out on?
David

I would have to say the 7 custom Emersons and some custom Microtechs that were in my collection that should have NEVER been sold. Live and learn, gotta quit wanting some many wonderful edged toys.Still have 1 Emerson but hell could have paid cash for the HD Night Train coming in a few months.

Only 410 made........EVER!!!!!!

This one will definately have nice collector value in years to come. Roger at Bayou Lafourche had me taken care of, but, I had to pass due to no cash.

I need my big ole butt kicked for doing this one. I sold a Brend Model 2 folder. This was one of the folders that Walter made. I bought it from Jim Ray, kept it a year and then sold it. You don't know how many times I wished I had kept it. This was the slickest folder I believe I had ever handled!

David,
If you were serious about this Geno subhilt knife....I see it for sale over in the knife forums for knives for sale trade forum....550.00 from someone in the UK

Emerson CQC6... could have placed an order for one in '94, but $450 was too much money back then (if I'd only KNOWN!)

Just missed a Microtech 8/94 UDT. Final bid was around $140, but according the the MT side-openers value list, it's worth $325+.

AlMar Warrior for $100.00. NIB.

I regret that I traded the first locking knife I ever owned -- a Camillus folder. I didn't realize then that years later I would miss it.

Spyderco Q.

May sound strange, because I really am not any spyderco fan.

But this knife has that "something".

A couple of times I was very close of buying it, but then I didn't.

Once I ordered it, but heard (from the seller) it was allready sold out

I know the "Q" thing. I've got one, fully serrated, in real good condition. It's just an extremely cool little knife.

Just yesterday, a forumite wrote offering to sell me a NIB Spyderco Calypso, at a very fair price. Having just ordered 3 new knives, and buying one off the forum, I had to plead "brokeness" and pass.

Have missed a couple similar opportunities just in the last couple months. Oh well, there are always knives out there. (I hope)

Discountknives had Busse Basic 9's for $100. I thought about it for a day and then placed an order - they had all been sold. I don't know if that day had made the difference or if they had been sold out by then, but that's a damn good deal I missed out on.

How are things in the "Tarheel" state?
I just wanted to state that I did come across a "Find" that didn't get away. I found an early Mr. George Herron up in an antique shop in NC for a very good price. It is now in my safe and will remain there for awhile. I didn't let this one get away. It is the "Little Dude" model number 843.

Hey David, what about the Emerson you got a couple years back? Wouldn't you like to have that one back?
biggrin.gif

I sure wouldn't mind having it

One that I remember that I should have got is one that David now has. It was the knife that won Andrew McLurkin Best New Maker (I think thats correct)at the SECK Show last year. I saw Kelly had it up for sale for awhile and I should have got it. It was a sweet looking knife like all of Andrew's other knives. Atleast I do have one McLurkin knife that didn't get away.

Thomas,
That Herron is a keeper at any price! He currently has closed his backlog at a 13 year wait. He told me once that he was in his seventies and hoped to have at least some retirement! What a great guy and a real chacter to listen to.
Michael,
You are right about the CQC6! I sold it and made 100% profit. Unfortunately that was about 3 weeks before Ernie announced his semi retirement from making customs

Oh well, Live and learn, Y'all come by table 18-B and check out some of Andrew McLurkins award winning knives! Don't let one of those be the future "one that got away!"
