I raised this question with Uncle Bill a few minutes ago and was wondering how many folks that visit here regularly would be interested in going online and chatting in the evenings (or whenever)?

Many of us from BladeForums meet in the evenings and discuss knives and have a few laughs.

I think this group would have a blast discussing khuks and what have you.

Anyway, a simple way to do it would be to download mIRC at www.mirc.com

Once you have the program, you can go on the server "Newnet" (that one seems to work well) and I'll set up a room called #khukuris.

Let me know if there is interest.

Best,

Blues

Give it a shot, Uncle. You may find it a pleasant way to stay in touch and cut down on some email at the same time.

If it doesn't agree with you, you can always toss it.

I think that's such a great idea that I logged on immediately. I'm the only one there right now, but that might have something to do with the time ... I'll try again tomorrow evening ... earlier.

If you happen to read this not long after I post it -- I'll keep that window open for a while.

Okay, I've got a channel, #khukuris established on the newnet servers.

Once you have downloaded mIRC and sign on to any of the Newnet servers (random, chicago, etc) just sign on to #khukuris and you will be able to chat with any of the forumites present.

Hope to see some of you there.

I've got the window open now at 9 PM for a while at least.

I was in the 'khukuris' chat channel ("room", if you prefer) with Blues from about 9:30-9:50 PM EDT on Mon. June 19. Newnet is one of the server networks on what is called Internet Relay Chat. You can talk in real time by text, using an IRC client app. Blues mentioned MIRC, which is freely downloadable on the Web for PC users. For Mac users, the best client app is Ircle, available at www.ircle.com. Once you have this shareware installed you can use it to join one of the servers of Newnet (there's a good Help file on both of the clients, and a list of networks and server addresses to choose from.) I got on with the server irc.eskimo.com. Once you are into the network on one of its servers, you can join us by typing /join #khukuris. It's easier than Web chat, ICQ or aol Instant Messenger by a long way. Hope to meet some of you there tomorrow eve...I'll try to drop by between 9 and 10 EDT.

I'm in the IRC Room of the Cantina now -- alone at the moment, but I'll probably be able to keep that window open for a couple of hours whether anybody else comes in or not.

It usually takes a while before an IRC channel really gets going. With luck we may end up with people there 24 hours a day.

I see you've already registered the channel, Blues -- good work!

I just got back from sunset walk that turned into a wet T-shirt contest -- I won by default as the only entrant.... Anyway, I'm on-line now -- if you log on any time tonight and don't see me, just wait a minute. I'm having a little system instability tonight but I log on again as fast as I get zapped.

It can take a while to get an IRC channel going, but once people start getting the habit of logging on to IRC when you come to this forum -- or any time you're on the net.... You can set mIRC to flash and beep when someone comes into the channel and just keep that window open in the background -- that's what I'm doing.

P.S. By the way, I use the name Cougarrrr on IRC.

Now would be a good time, we are in there waiting for you.
