Online store review request

(I'm gonna post this here and at the BalisongXtreme forum 'cause I don't know where you're all hanging out).

I've already purchased a bunch of auto knives from one online store ... they should be shipping soon. I'm pretty confident they'll get through given where I ordered it. I'm looking to get a couple of balisongs now, along with some other ... uh ... miscellaneous illegality. I'm hoping to order from www.popularlink.com (which I found through your site, Clay). The things I'm wondering, if anyone here knows are :

1) They have two balisongs listed there as Jaguars. They're really cheap. Are they inferior models, or should this just show me how much other companies jack up the price on these things?

2) Has anyone here bought from them? Specifically anything not legal in your area of residence? I want to know if it will get through. And, I'm in Canada. Anyone else in Canada with any insight on this, I would love to talk to.

Thanks for your help, guys.

Actually, all the Balisongs on that page are marked Jaguar. And they look to be the same models you'll find everywhere else.

I haven't heard or recieved any e-mail horror stories about popular link, so I'd assume they're OK to deal with.

As far as the "illegal territories" goes, and at the risk of sounding like I have some interest in the company, KnifeZilla has always gotten them in there.

popularlink.com is reliable but takes a long time to ship. I ordered lots of stuff from them inclusing the classic jaguar I used as throwing knives

their prices are the best on the net - i dunno if they will ship to CA etc yo umight have to ask. ANyways their quality is good (same as the other distributors) but the only downside is that they do not have the skletonized versions of the high end jaguars (surgical tang stamp)

yeah clay don't laugh at me I do not like plastic inserts no more

I have had three contradictory experiences with Popular Link. When I finally get my exploratory order from DiscountKnives, I'll be able to give a recommendation.

I ordered two chrome Jaguars and two chrome "Kamakazi"s. I got two chrome Jaguars and two black-painted POSs. I won't go into any length about the crap knives, but I will recommend that black (at least from Popular Link) not be ordered.

The Jaguars, however ... well worth the cost of the whole order. These are not the Rostfrei stamped, light-handled crap ones. The tang reads "Jaguar Stainless Taiwan" and the handles feel like cold steel (weight and heat conductivity). I have yet to bust a pin (I tightened one of the knives once) in a couple months of use.

Another order was 8 chrome and 2 deluxe. I did not like any of these. I'm going to repin them all when I get access to a proper workbench.

Stats in 3 weeks:
2 - (1 of each) pin cap fell out
3 - pivots loosened beyond safe use
3 - undisclosed failure
1 - (deluxe) peeling insert
1 - that hasn't really been used, the safe handle pivot is loosening.

It could be that I go easier on the heavy ones to spare my hands, but I'm not THAT gentle.

The last order was a bunch of black Jaguars that have peeling paint in addition to all the other problems, or so I've heard.

I either was lucky or made a sufficiently small order to get the good stuff. If anyone wants to gamble, it is possible to get something other than the crap stuff for a low price.

DiscountKnives is cheaper than Popular Link, for what seems to be the same item (plus there's a color selection). However, Popular Link extremely loose with locale illegality.

We have close to 500 positive feedbacks on Ebay, and we usually ship within 24 hours of receiving payment, so you can be safe to order from us. But we only sell the least expensive china and taiwan butterfly knives in the full size right now. thanks johnr7
