Only a matter of time before Kansans can get a CCW!

Well it looks to me like people in Kansas will be able to get a CCW soon. I emailed my House Rep., Senator, and the Governor a little while ago and I guess I got added to their mailing lists. I got a legislative update back last night and here's what it said about the CCW bill:

Concealed Carry. SB 418, a bill to allow licensed Kansans to carry concealed firearms passed the House on a vote of 90-33. The Senate followed the House with a vote of 30‑10 to adopt the bill with changes suggested by the House. The changes included additions to the list of places where you are prohibited from carrying a concealed weapon. The bill requires a training course and licensure from the Attorney General’s office. With 90 votes for passage in the House, and 30 votes in the Senate, this bill will be sent to the Governor with a veto‑proof majority in both chambers.

I turn 21 in 6 months and within a year or two thereafter I'd like to get a handgun and a CCW. I go to school in a high crime area and I'm glad this is finally getting passed.

Good for you bro , if your not allready famaliar with firearms I suggest a course or three at your local range , if they have them.
Too bad that we Americans allow our guvmint to legislate something inalienable , but that is another thread :)

I use these on two of my pistols and they work great for CC.

"requires a training course " that's good but it has to be a very good course to be worth anything ." additions to...where you are prohibited" Some states have so many prohibited areas that it's a joke !! In any case in most states schools are on the prohibited list !!...In any case it's a serious business so take it so !

Good to hear.

Schools will always be prohibited places, and it's likely that bars and restaurants that serve alcohol might be prohibited.

Yeah I plan on taking at least 1 course before I get a gun. I don't really know much about guns at this point and I want to feel comfortable with them if I'm going to carry one on my person. I'm not crazy about the exceptions, but at least they included restaurants and banks. I just wish I could take one to school since there is so much crime. There are lots of stories about students getting mugged on the way to their cars.

When you're ready to shop, try American Arms Corp. They have a website. After being mugged at bayonet point [in my left nostril ] and straight razor [ right kidney ] I decided that a large pistol in my motel hoom was not the answer,I needed a fairly heavy hitter that would ride comfottably in my pants pocket.

I chose their .22 mini-mag. It is stainless steel & holds 5 rounds. This is NOT a target pistol. It is for "up close & personal " work because it has a very short barrel. It probably is the size of a pack of "longs " cigarettes & weighs just a few ounces. It is not a quick loader because you have to remove the cylinder to do it. It will lock between cylinders to prevent acciodental discharging. It hits almost as hard as a .38 according to the dealer & others.

Other retirees in Florida carry this gun. A revolver is ready to fire on demand. A semi- requires loading the chamber or at least flipping the safety off & is more likely to misfire due to sand & pocket lint.

To view probably the country's most liberal CC & self protection laws , go to www.myflorida.com & search the law out. Gun control folks are gnashing & foaming at the mouth.

A lot of responsibility comes with a carry permit.

Uncle Alan :)

Update: The idiot Kathleen Sebelius vetoed the bill but she was overridden by the legislature. She's now the first Kansas governor to be overridden in 14 years. The law will come into effect July 1st and it's believed permits will be available January 1st. Woohoo!
