BEAGLE SHUTS DOWN INTERSTATE 64

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Just call him Mister I-64, the dog that stopped traffic.

A little brown and white beagle on Thursday got the attention of state troopers, humane and police officers from Dunbar and South Charleston, and motorists at large.

"The cars on the highway were really trying to avoid the dog but we couldn't have done it without the help from the police," Gwinn said. "I was going down the interstate and pulled up behind the officers who had traffic blocked near the exit at Institute. At this point traffic was stopped."

It's good to see our State showing compassion toward animals. We often don't get much good press.

I saw four puppies trotting down MacCorkle toward Saint Albans yesterday morning. I stopped and tried to lure them with pet treats I always keep in the car, but they hit the treeline and vanished. I hope I don't see any lying alongside the road in the coming days. :( We have actually managed to catch a couple dogs we've seen in the road and reunite them with their owners, or at least get them to a shelter.

That's so good to hear.
kinda does restore some faith in humanity, doesnt it?
Dogs are some of my favorite people.

This reminds me of a time traffic came to a halt on the National Road. I thought it was a wreck at first, but I looked to see a mama duck leading a few baby ducks across the street.
Times like those reassure me. Around here we see a lot of vehicular deerslaughter. The deer are overpopulated and the hunting season isn't really long enough (plus you can't hunt on Oglebay Park, where such collisions are common). It's good to see man and beast living in harmony once in a while.
You know, my Great Dane stopped traffic once. She was eating a chocolate ice cream cone out of my dad's hand. Licking it just as delicate as you please, eye to eye with my seated father. Evidently that was a tad askew to the driving passersby.

Now I know which State I will move to when I win the lottery and can afford to move from my present location...West Virginia and maybe I'll find me a 'mountain momma' too? :D

Just remember to bring your beagles. And Great Danes.
Don't forget the khuks either.
