I get to spend more time making knives. This is a good thing, cause I need the practice. ;)

I was just demoted and frankly, it's a relief. I've been demoted from production manager to production. I was told that I represented the production department during managerial meetings, when I should have been representing administration more during production meetings. I think that is a pretty accurate assessment. I was admired for my ability to get a group to deliver an amazing amount of product, but that wasn't what they wanted from my position.

The good news is this... In the three years I've been there, I work the highest average work week (averaged over 53 hrs/wk). I now draw an hourly wage and it is likely that I will mostly work only 40 hour work weeks. (A hit in pay, but I can draw overtime pay now!)

I no longer have a high stress job, so it's time to relaxxxxxxxxx. I can hear the grinder calling me. Zzzziiing!!! :D

It could be much worse, I know, and I'm thankful.

Oh, and I've been celebrating with a sweet bottle of Schlafly Reserve Imperial Stout - thanks to Bruce Wayne for this!

Hey Troy,

I hear ya about the mixed feelings re your job status. When my last farm lease went south we ended up moving to Oahu and urbania (Honolulu). I then landed a job teaching. It is one of the few jobs of employment I've ever had, as I've spent most of my life self employed, etc. Anyway, when I learned of being hired I told a friend I had both good and bad news. She wanted the good news first, so I told her I had a full time job. When she asked for the bad news, I told her I had a full time job.

Sure hope you get to log some hours in that pretty shop. It looks lonely.

All the best, Phil

You know BATMAN? Looks like your ready to do some serious grinding! Congrats!

Pay no attention to the masked man handing me a beer. ;)

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to it. I couldn't have gotten the shop set up at a better time.

Thanks, Phil. I'm actually looking forward to it just being a 'job' again. I can't remember the last time I worked just 40 hours. I don't mind working long hours, but can't help but dream of a time I'm doing it for my own business and not someone else's. It will be nice to be able to spend some time on my true interests.

That us or them attitude between management and labor is one of the big problems in American industry. Until everyone learns it is really "everyone" we will never make the leap we need to to become a force on the supply side once more.

you hit the nail on the head on that one Jim . It was that separation attitude between management and us workers that got me to take an early retirement . For 14 yrs. it was the best job I ever had , 2 yrs. with a new boss and that attitude, threw the whole department in the toilet .
