I was thinking about purchasing something new, inexpensive and decent. My thinking was maybe an Ontario Rat 1 for around $25.00-$27.00.

I ended up purchasing 2 Byrds, the black Cara Cara 2 and the Crossbill 3.50" Satin.

I did run across the Ontario Apache Tac 1. From the photos a good looking knife! I almost bought this knife, though I had never known of it until yesterday evening. I don't really follow Ontario.

Price was decent at around $85.00. Does anyone know anything about this knife? Do you use or carry it? There seems to be some discrepency about the steel being used. 154-CM or 440C?

Opinions on this knife??

Ohhhh...I'd never seen this knife before, but it's just ugly enough to be my cup of tea. I'm kind of tempted to get one now...

EDIT: It WOULD be tempting if it didn't cost 90$+ everywhere I look. 90$ for 440c? I'm a little hesitant, but it does look really neat with that sculpted G10...

Yes, I agree.

It is really hard to find much info about this knife. Is the steel 440C or 154CM?? Are there 2 different steel "type" versions made?

I was looking at the OKC Apache before my collection turned a different corner (more interested in traditionals these days.) I still dig the blade-shape and fishbone G-10. Steel is 440C but several vendor sites listed it as 154CM in error for some reason. If you call Ontario, they will tell you that it's 440C. Either way, it's a cool-lookin' folder. Too bad the pocket clip is tip down right hand only... but it kind of makes sense with the plunger lock, I guess.
