Any info. or experience with this knife?

How about alternative suggestions?

Also, hollow handle, storage fixed blades, the good, bad, and ugly!

Thank You

INFO: it is spec'd at 50-54 RC, so they are going for toughness rather than edge-holding. Given that it is intended to get you out of a crashed aircraft, that is understandable.

Brace yourself for "alternatives."

Most hollow-handled knives on the market are junk. There are expensive exceptions for those that like cylindrical handles - like the handle on the Rothco Ontario ASEK-AircrewTM Survival Egress Knife

Excellent post. Hypermole, what do you mean by alternatives? What do you expect one does with that knife? Escape from downed aircraft? Do "survival"? Go camping?

Maybe if you let us know what you expect to do with this knife, we can let you know if it is any good at doing those things, or what alternatives are.

Not with that one but I have a few Ontario knives and they generally make good stuff.

Depends on what you want it for and what features you like.

Generally avoid them, unless they are made from one solid continuous piece of steel.

If you want a knife made for the same purpose, the Gerber LMF II is designed mostly with that same purpose. They even have an ASEK version with the proper leg straps and a strap cutter attached.

Hollow handle knifes are usually a blade bolted to the handle, thus only as strong as the bolt. The Chris Reeve Project is a solid piece of metal, but not made anymore. The Schrade Extreme Survival knife (1st version - not the current lineup) is 1 piece and designed based on the CRP (with Reeve' approval - not a knock off stolen design). I have one, and it's a decent blade I use and would rely on. The new Boker Plus Aparro is a bolt together model that is designed by Martin knives and is supposed to be as strong as a full tang knife.

When folks were all mad for Rambo Knives, some had the handles glued or spot-welded to the blade. Some had a bolt but it ran through a hole in a thin "floor" of the tubular handle Users could pull the nut through that tube floor.

I have an Ontario ASEK. I wouldn't hesitate to use it. Great knife. I am not a huge fan of the leg sheath, but my wife loves it. The rubber coated handle is awesome.
