Greg Covington does mods on Bagwell bowies. In fact, he is selling a Gambler style bowie that he modified right now in the for sale section in the makers colum.

You can email Greg at: gcovington@woh.rr.com

He does great work and his prices are very reasonable. I have 4 knives from Greg, including a Belle reproduction. I love it.

Hey thanks for the compliments Greg!!

I have done pretty close to 10 of the Ontarios. Mostly, I forge my own stuff, but I can't resist the urge to make the Ontario Bagwell a nicer piece.

The number of mods are almost endless. Basically, I remove the original handle and also the ONTARIO markings, but leave the Bagwell stamp in place.

I have not yet done the "dogbone" grip but it is one that I have been wanting to do. Looks relatively easy. I also do the "eagle" style grip too.

I have found that the HB model has a better finish than the Gambler, and that the Gamblers vary in finish from nice to "okay" The QS-13 steel will shine pretty good, but it has an orange peel finish when buffed and I have not been able to get it to take a mirror finish. It is a tough knife though. I dropped one point first onto my concrete shop floor (by accident) and it took a divot out of the floor.

It was just my feeling that Ontario did a great job with the blades but the handle material and sheath was not as nice as it could have been.
