Does Anyone have any information about this particular knife? I want a long bladed knife, this is the one I am leaning toward. Does anyone have a better suggestion? The blade on this knife is slightly over 11 inches and is 3/16" thick. A forum member I know from IRC has toyed with one, said it was a good blade. Any other thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanx

OK, I have one. The blade on mine sure as Hell isn't 3/16" thick as advertised. Closer to 5/32".
Just a minor glitch. I have other "fighters".
The knife is ok, but I haven't used it that much. My impression is it would make a very good machete. The thinner blade on my sample makes me a little reluctant to use it in a self defense type of application. It would be a decent enough work knife if you like your working blades longish in the blade. I have several other designs in the Spec Plus line and they are all good knives.
IMO, the Ontario Spec plus line are well worth the money you spend on them. Or, I should say, the little bit of money you spend on them.

I can purchase a cold steel factory 2nd Bush Ranger (miniscule imperfection) , or a Kabar USMC for only a few dollars more. If the frontiersman doesn't live up to its adv. specs perhaps one of these would be a better buy ?

If you can't afford a custom Bagwell and you also can't afford an Ontario version of Bagwells Helles Belle then the Frontiersman is the way to go. Ontario makes good users in 1095 that won't break your wallet by any means.

1095, 5/32", brine quenched, torch drawn, 10.5"

What kind of steel is in the blade ?

And I ask again - how does it stack up to the cold steel knives ?

The frontiersman isn't a work knife-long blade, thinner stock, pointy with a sharpened clip. As for Spec Plus vs. Cold Steel-Kraton handles, coated carbon blades-CS has the better QC, and you pay for it.
