Just saw some pics of this and It looks pretty kick ass. it is just shy of 9" but I believe it is a little more functional. I like my Junglas but it is huge! Looks to retail for around $70+, it is 1/4" and made of 5160 Steel. Lifetime warranty as well. The sheath seems to be better than the Kabar Heavy Bowie and the Ontario SP5 (I have both). This could be a nice sub-$100 blade for camping and what not! Anyone have any experience...it sure is one sexy knife!!

Ontario makes knives out of 5160 for Justin Gingrich (Ranger Knives). My guess is that they've got their heat treat right or Justin wouldn't have chosen to do business with them.

I have seen mixed with Range knives. RTAK II chipping...and the 5160 seems to have this issue. Tons of pictures to go with. I like the design of the new Gen II SP50 but I have some hesitation with any Ontario Product as well as ranger.

The sheath is nothing special and worse than what comes with the Beckers because instead of a snap on the handle strap they use velcro and the velcro strip isn't long enough. Maybe they'll correct this on future runs. Yeah, the sheath has a couple extra features but it's the same nylon with plastic insert and it's cheap.
The knife is nice though. My only complaint is the kraton handle will tear up your hand after a period of swinging it around unless you have very rough hands perhaps. The blade shape is appealing and the edge geometry is good. It cuts well. Mine didn't chip at all and after a full day of use clearing a trail the edge was brought back to a razor with a couple swipes on the Spyderco Sharpmaker fine rod and some stropping.

The handle looks very similar to my SP5. It is pretty hard but I did pretty good with it from a day worth of use. My Kabar Heavy Bowie is slightly bigger but not bad. The SP5 fit my hand better. Once again the SP50 Gen II handle looks almost identical to the SP5.

Yeah, the handles are very close if not identical. I shaved the handle down on the SP50 - used a knife to whittle away some of the kraton to fit my small/medium hand better. The handle is also easily removed if you want to customize your knife. I did that with my Kabar Heavy Bowie.

Got any pictures? Would love to see how it turned out.
