School me on the SP 49.
Is it still in production?
Looks like the saber grind version of the SP 48. Is their a Saber / Flat grind model of all the SP series?
The specs I see vary, is it a flat saber or hollow saber,
Is the blade 8.5" or just over 8"?
Does not seam to have the love of some of the others.

Thanks ,
So 53-55 HRC must be right. After all it's the manufacturers site. I thought it would be a little harder.

We can double check, this version of our website is pretty new and finding something that needed to be corrected would not be unfathomable. That said, the designer of that knife, Dan Maragni, told me that he is not always a proponent of "harder means better." The Gen II series really takes some abuse, with people using them for batoning, chopping, etc, and some of the designs back off the hardness in favor of toughness - remember, hard can mean brittle too. We'll find out if that was the case here or if something else is going on.

Thanks for the response, I just got one a few days ago.
I am not saying 54 is too soft but softer then I thought it would be. I saw some sites list it at 53-55 & some say 57 I think. This is my first knife in 5160. I love the design. Have not used it much yet as I have been working a lot and sadly out of all the knives I have had the edge on this one I think is the worst. Dull with a obtuse secondary edge. I can fix it then have some fun.
I will post a pic after I knock some of the coating off on some wood.

sharpened up & good to go.
I think I am going to like this blade.
