Ontario M7 Bayonet

I recently purchased a new Ontario M7 bayonet, and am somewhat disappointed with the quality. The handle has about an 1/8th inch gap between the part that goes around the barrel, and a smaller but still noticable gap between the other side of the handle and the part that attaches to the rifle. Additionally, the bayonet has a slight curve downward (the edge is not straight). I can add pictures once I find my camera if anyone is interested. Is this typical of these bayonets?

The reason I got it is mostly nostalgia. This is the bayonet I remembered using when I was in the Army some 20 years ago. I doubt it ever sees any kind of real use, it was just something I wanted. As such, I'd like it to look pretty. I'm undecided if I should return this one and ask for another, or keep it and buy another and hope for better luck.

Thoughts and opinions?
Thanks.

Edit: I did find this....seems it's normal for a new production commercial bayonet.

It is a mil-spec item, don't expect perfection. You can call Ontario and they will accept it back and send you a new one - tell them what you are looking for on the phone. They will make it right, but most contract military issue items I have seen have a wide margin of what isconsidered acceptable.

All of the mil-spec M7's I have seen have that gap between the guard and the handle. If you want one without the gap, go for the Eickhorn or similar commercial made. Eickhorn's manufacturing is quite nice on their bayonets. Heck, even their grinds are straight :)

How much are surplus USM7's down there? I think they are around $25-$35 here in Canada....I'd take the real thing over a repro any day.

Thanks DRE....that's a nice looking bayonet. I may look into one of those.

I got the Ontario bayonet new from an online retailer for about $40, give or take. It came with an M10 scabbard. I have not done much looking for them so I'm not sure of the typical price for a surplus one locally at a gun/knife show or gunstore.
