I know that I am not a the end all know all on the use of the machete. But I was asked to do a one stick fire demo video. Rick I have not forgotten about your one stick bow and drill. Also I am sorry about the length of this vid.

Great stuff, I've never seen that technique for spitting wood (notch and impact). I'll have to try that next time I go camping.

Cool vid. That humidity is a killer when you are doing anything even slightly active though.

Pict: Good to see a man who appreciates the machete the way you do. You are a man after my own heart. When we were young we had no idea we were doing "bushcraft." We were just living. And so were all the folks around us. Got older and found out some folks called it a craft. There's a dozen ways to make fire without matches or lighters and now and then people forget and leave those at home. A few skills come in handy at those times. A box of matches or a cigarette lighter tucked into the pocket is a good idea too.

When I was a kid in PA we didn't call it "bushcraft" either. We made fires with whatever means we had, hunted, fished, trapped etc. Shelters were called "forts". When we went "bushcrafting" we would say something like "I'm going to my fort." Every kid had a "fort", it was the place you went when home was a bad option for whatever dysfunctional reason parents, brothers, neighbors, and local law enforcement had come up with that particular day.

Officer - "Don't worry mam, he'll come home when he gets hungry."

Mom - "Officer have you ever actually MET my son?"

Mac

well Pict, "forts" are all well and good for kids, but for MEN, we need Bushcraft :D

I have played with making fires this way, but my SOP is to bring out my kit, with dryer lint, fat wood and a Bic.
