I'm not wearing web gear so I'm looking for ideas:

Here is Dave Canterbury's set-up, but I don't see what the rope is tied to:

It's those pins that I'm thinking about removing. I'd use the belt slip for my needs. I would like to know how Canterbury is tying his shoulder harness rope though.

Anyone have any ideas and/or opinions?

I have the USGI green nylon deal-I just run it through one of the upper compression straps on my pack, does a good job.

That's an easy one. On both of mine I just used about a 6" piece of inch and a half webbing through the slot behind the wire tabs and sewed the ends together. If you don't have access to a sewing machine you can also use two or three belt snaps like used on leather sheaths and it becomes removable by undoing the snaps. You can buy a snap kit complete with the punch and anvil at Michaels Craft stores in the leather section. The kit also comes with enough snaps for lots of repairs and multiple sheaths and you are only limited by your imagination when using those snaps for different things. I used a 6" piece of webbing to make sure that it would thread thru almost any size belt I ever wanted to use. If you use the snaps maybe make it 7 or 8" inches long. Make the hole in the snaps by burning the hole through if you use nylon webbing. Also, make the hole smaller than you think you need until the snap barely fits through. You want a fairly tight fit before you smuush the snap pins flat. I burn the holes through with a pointed soldering iron but you can also use a heated nail and your kitchen stove.

By leaving the wire tab on you can also use it on a military web belt if you ever wanted to.

Have you tried a Tek Lok? Might mean a little drilling to get the right holes to mount to, bu then you can belt carry it easy peasy!
