My step son wants an Ontario Ranger NS4 or 6 or Ranger RD 4 or 6. Anyone have something good or bad to say about these knives?

I am assuming you mean Night Stalker (NS) and Ready Deployment (RD) ??? Yes, those are some GREAT knives. You can't go wrong with any of them. All have 1/4" thick steel. I have an RD6 Signature Series. LOVE that knife. The NS series has a re-curve style blade. It may be a little more difficult to re-sharpen for beginners. Justin Gingrich is the designer. They are Made in America & IMHO, rank right there with some of the best "bang for the bucks" Heavy Duty "hard use" knives made today. ( BK&T/KaBar---ESSE---Ontario---Buck ) Those are just off the top of my head. There are certainly more.

Have an RD7, and had an RD6. Beat the crap out of both and I couldn't have been happier. Definitely would recomend them
