I am about to purchase an Ontario Khukri and SP5 Bowie. The only problem is, I hate the handles. I was wondering if anyone knows what the tang is like in these knifes. If it is a full tang then I will cut off the factory handle and wrap my own. If not, then I will purchase a Pathmaker I and do the same. All advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

The tang is like the Cold Steel series of kraton handled knives - it is about 3/4 of the width of the handle and extends down to where the lanyard hole is. You may find it a bit narrow if you just wrap it.

I've got the Brigade Kukri (made by ontario) - my one has the worst example of grinding I've seen in a while - it starts at 1/4" at the ricasso, tapers to 3/16" along the spine, goes out to 1/4" again and then tapers to the point. Overall a D minus grade for grinding.

The steel is way soft as well - I highly recommend checking it out before buying as Ontario QC is hit and miss.

Performance wise, the Brigade kuk is ok for the money - but you would be better served by the Becker Patrol machete. I would send my Brigade kukri back, but I live in New Zealand and it would cost me a fortune!
