Anyone own one? Want a good robust fixed blade for backpacking/hiking and I like the looks of this one although I wish it had a little better finger guard. I'm trying to keep it under $100. Not really a Tanto guy but in this knife, I think I like it.

Well, if it was me I would go with either s BK9 or a Browning Crowell Barker knife. I think both are more durable IMO

IDK, the Ontario is .25 5160 and the bk9 is .1875 0170-6...

My money would go on the thicker 5160 being more durable, assuming proper heat treats on both.

I don't know of many blades for under 100 bucks that are .25 with a 7+inch blade.

If you're willing to sacrifice a little thickness the becker bk7 and bk9 are good alternatives. Perhaps a junglas in the exchange would fit the bill... I'll keep thinking.

I trust the becker HT more than ontario HT. But that's me.

OKC is a great choice. There is a reason the US military has kept a contract with them for so long. I've been using there products about 20yrs now. I have a Becker 16, and it's quality is less than any OKC I've ever had. A matter of fact I'd like to get rid of this 16. The Rat and Ranger series are among the best they offer

I'd trust an Ontario Ranger implicitly. Justin Gingrich the designer is a good guy who stands behind his product and a real life Ranger. Though they are kinda bomb proof beasts, even the "slicier" ones.

I have an RD4, and it's a heavy knife. I never carry it, and the sheath sucks. The RD is just as heavy. IMO, becker bk16 is a perfect hiking backpacking camping knife.
