The title is self explanatory. I don't know weather to get

the Ontario Ranger Shiv

or

the Ka-Bar Becker Companion.

If you have a suggestion on another 4-5 inch, thick bladed, under $60 knife, I'm all ears.

I looked at both of these and I think both are pretty good for the money. Out of those two I like the Becker.

I ended up getting a short ka-bar 1251 instead.

both made for completely different purposes

Precisely. They are entirely different knives.

I would compare the Campanion to the RD4. The Shiv is more of a "bushcrafty/slicer"...its not as "hard use" as the RD4 or the Campanion.

i know it's not exactly the topic but since marcinek mentioned it:
what do you guys think is the better blade? the companion or the rd4/afghan?

The RD-4 and Afghan are different knives.

I choose the Afghan over the Becker.

I have had the Becker ... not the current version and it is a good knife.

I prefer the geometry, steel and handle material of the Afghan though.
