They are a pretty good deal at the new price. Rat claims they no longer want them made in tawain, but why did they in the first place, only to change there mind? I suspect some customers didn't like it is why they wanted to stop them from being made in tawain.
I have NO idea really though, and dought to many know the WHOLE storey, except Rat and Ontario.
I got one at the new price for an around the house beater and it is a good deal on a good knife. Or at least the one I got is made fairly well, and I've always liked the design.

It's a nice folder at the new price which is half what I paid for it way back when
Solid lock up and ergonomic grip, nice clip, tip up or down. AUS-8 takes a very sharp edge, easy to sharpen and retention isn't all that bad. A bit heavier than I like for a EDC, but a steal at the current price.
