Ontario RAT 1:

Okay, so I have carried this knife for just over a month now and it has become my favorite blade that gets the most use. Here is why:

1) It was cheaper than most of my other folders (32 bucks! with shipping!) so I dont mind hard using it.

2) It performs as well as other folders

3) The spec's it has: full flat grind, clip moves to any position, can take it apart easily, metal liners, good ergo's, et cetera.

4) It functions as a good edc, defensive blade (in a pinch, if necessary), and also has limited survival capabilities.

Anybody who hates this knife let me know. I am open to criticism and would love to hear your opinions -aside from the "RAT cutlery Ontario issue." Otherwise, doesn’t this knife just kick a$$:D

I like mine a lot, I have had it for a few years and it's a well made folder.

Where was yours made?

I also have one,it was added to an order on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised by both the price and quality of construction.IMO,It beats the vex and tenacious in price;you get Japanese AUS 8 steel(NOT Chinese Steel),it's liner locks open with a very audible click, there are 5 bolts holding the knife together, and it's of an open post construction.

Mine was also made in Taiwan and there was nothing wrong with mine.Everything was just perfect.

Thanks for the review. I'm new to knives and I'm considering getting one of these for knocking around with. In terms of function and price, what other knives would one consider/compare in this same class?

I've got one. I'd say it's in about the same class as my Spyderco Tenacious, Byrd Cara Cara, and maybe my Boker M-Type. I have no complaints about it, but compared to those other three, the Model 1 is kind boring and plain looking, so I've relegated it to glove box duty.

I love this design. I wish the real RAT would come out with a similar folder. That being said I have the coated and uncoated models and alternate carry with Caledonian. Cuts extremely well, locks up tight, and good handle ergo's for me. Quality build all around. May be the best bang for the buck out there at this time via ebay. keepem sharp

Rat-1 became my best EDC folder last month. It kicked out Spyderco military from my pocket.
It has best price value for production folder, AUS-8 steel is very good on edge retention and is easy to sharp on Spyderco sharpmaker.

Mine has been in my back pocket every day since I bought it a few months back. Ditto all of the positive comments above. It is a very solid, hard working, comfortable use knife at an amazing price.
